I was walking to go get a haircut when all of a sudden my eye felt like it was about to explode. A burning feeling expanded all of my eyeball with intense pain. I knew something was way wrong, either a bee stung my eye or a blood vessel popped. I’ve had a lot of crap get stuck in my eye, but nothing like this. This was a clear sting, it came out of nowhere and was like a light switch.
Running back to my place I looked in the mirror and saw a black insect looking thing about the size of a grain of rice.
It was up in the top corner near the bridge of my nose, under my eyelid and on my eyeball. With a few minutes of struggling to get it out, I finally managed to get it out. It was what looked like either a stinger or a small centipede type creature.
It was shaped like an upside down christmas tree and zig zagged like a saw. I can’t be sure if it’s a bee stinger or some little stinging insect. Anyways I knew this was potentially serious. With a lingering burning pain in my eye I started searching Google on the way back to the hair cut shop.
Yes…I headed back to the haircut shop because the pain was going away and my eye wasn’t that red. I really wanted a haircut today. Arriving at the haircut place I started searching Google again and realized this problem could be serious. I called an eye doctor and he said go to the ER right away.
Luckily my friend was getting a haircut in the haircutters chair. I know…I was really surprised actually he just happened to be getting a haircut. Its a huge city and I only have a few friends here anyways.
Anyways I told him what happened and he drove me to the ER. The ER doctor took a look and said that my eye didn’t look too bad. He said it did look a little irritated but nothing too serious. He offered to drop some orange glow drops to look for scratches but I declined. I asked him what he would do if he was me and he claimed he would just keep an eye on my eye.
Anyways, this dude isn’t like some eye expert. So, I am wondering. Am I in the clear here? This happened about 4-5 hours ago. My eye looks for the most part perfectly normal with only a slight dry burning pain. If a bee did indeed sting me (something did) then do I got to worry about the venom slowly effecting it or perhaps scar tissue developing? I don’t want to slowly go blind or anything. Right now my vision seems blind.
BTW…I am gonna try to be happier. I really think being unhappy leads to crappy things coming into your life. I got to get happier, my dad died not long ago and ever since bad stuff has been happening to me. I just got to appreciate life more. You guys think my eye is gonna be ok? Thanks
Ok I looked up Dftt and I am not a troll dude. Seriously, why would I make something up like this? A bee really did sting my eyeball and it sucked. I just want to make sure I am not going to suffer any permanent damage.
I’m not a doctor. But you’ve already done the smart thing and seen a doctor. ER doctors are trained in handling all kinds of situations - they may not know how to treat everything but they generally recognize what needs to be treated and would send you to a specialist if you needed one.
As far as trauma like this, whatever injuries you’re going to suffer usually happen at the time of the trauma. Once the object is removed, your body is going to start healing. So as long as your eye heals normally and doesn’t show signs of getting infected, you just need to allow it time to heal. For what it’s worth, your eyes are one of the fastest healing organs in your body.
Well I put the stinger/bug on a book before I left. I just took out a flashlight and examined the bug. I am almost certain this is a whole flying insect…not a stinger. But I see a stinger on him as well as his wings. Like he’s the size of a misquito…but what could be so small and sting like that? I live in Los Angeles btw. Crap…so I am now certain I was stung by some sort of small black mosquito like insect.
BTW…I read that bee stings can lead to cataracts and things like this. It’s more of a scar tissue type thing too I think. So I guess I am not out of the woods yet?
The first concern is whether your cornea was pierced or scratched. But you declined the fluorescein stain that would have told the doctor that. A pierced or scratched cornea is what will cause an infection, and that’s really the only thing you need to worry about.
If you wake up with a weepy swollen eye, then it’s become infected and you will need meds and you will need to go back to a doctor. See, what meds you get depend on whether there’s a scratch or not. The ER doc couldn’t give you anything, because he didn’t know. You could have had it done in one, but no, you declined a service that would have been immensely helpful to rule a problem in or out. The doctor could have given you something prophylactically, to soothe the eye and either treat or prevent a possible infection, but he couldn’t because you didn’t get the stain done. And now you just don’t know.
Sounds like all that happened was you got a tiny bug in your eye. Cripes you need a Valium.
In anticipation of waking up with a weepy, swollen eye - sleep well.
Seadragontattoo. I appreciate your reply and understand where you are coming from. But I have had literally hundreds if not thousands of bugs fly into my eyes over my life. Like a nat or something is just a slight annoyance. Trust me dude, this was totally different. This was a sting, most people would have cried like a baby.
I know you might think I am overreacting, but you are wrong. I never ever go to the doctor. I will never go ever. So trust me, if this was just “tiny bug in my eye” I wouldn’t run off to the ER. There’s a big difference between a tiny buy and a tiny buy that stings you.
Anyways the reason I didn’t take the eye drops is simple. The doctor literally said he was 99% sure my eye would be fine. He said the eye drops would make it 100%. Then he went on to say even if the eye drops show a scratch, it will most likely heal on its own without treatment. He told me if he was in my shoes he would just keep an eye on it. If it starts to swell or hurt badly to come back. With that said, I realized he was most likely correct.
My main concern though is long term damage or cataract development later due to trauma.
A quick Google search (term: bee sting on eyeball) brought up this as the third response:

So, you chose to ignore the one professional who had the best information to make an informed judgment and want the opinions of a bunch of internet amateurs without direct knowledge or examination?
Do yourself a favor. Don’t ignore what medical professionals say if you don’t happen to like the answer.
Ok guys. Well my eye feels fine right now. The problem is, a small red spot has devloped right on the upper corner of the iris. It’s just a small red area mixed in with the brown of my eyes. I am hoping this will not get any bigger. Perhaps it’s just a little irritation? I mean…its possible this was already there and I just didnt look close enough last night. I mean its not dramatic…you really got to look at my eye to see it. But if it was something bad I would have pain right?
