The

I have a question.

I've been a bit curious on how this reaction works. Like I hear women who have been raped being able to throw off an attacker that is two times their weight. I just kind of find it amazing if things like that is true.

I do know that this is something primitive; yet any books on this process alone I can't find at all! I was wondering if someone could offer their expertise on exactly what this does? Specifically, does anyone know how much an increase that the response gives? For example, can someone pick up something that is five times their weight or somehow run or react faster?

What triggers it? Rage? Anger? Emotions? Is this the same response that people can kill others for and be exonerated by the law?

In fact, ANY information would be helpful Including personal experiences.

Thanks!

Brian

Eh?! Not aware of that one! Not in the UK anyway. An automatic response (such as to a perceived attack) can lead to exoneration, but not one caused by rage or other emotion.

If you have a temporary loss of reason and attack someone, then that is a different scenario, and not one which your OP seems to be addressing. You are not necessarily exonerated either.

IANADoctor, but I think you will find that an adrenalin rush (causing the fight or flight response) is responsible for temporarily increased abilities. I don't imagine there is a mathematical formula to it though, but no doubt someone with actual expertise (as opposed to my WAG) will be around shortly.

I was just weighing in on the law bit!

I was actually talking about the Fight or Flight response. <sigh> This darn message boards are weird; sometimes they load, sometimes they don't, sometimes they don't load properly, sometimes they only load half way, and sometimes they take so long you get the 'Connection timed out!' response. Oh well.
