Pre-Poll Data Collecting -- Westerns Stars

Name as many stars of Westerns as you think are worth being in a poll to determine SDMB’s favorite. Once we get a decent number I’ll put up said poll.

Add to these:

Russell Crowe
Gene Hackman
John Wayne

Alan Ladd
Burt Lancaster
Bob Steele
Gene Autry
Roy Rogers

Charles Starrett
Smiley Burnette
Charles Bronson
Lee Van Cleef

Randolph Scott
Joel McCrea
Lee Marvin (and his horse)
Tom Berenger

Jimmy Stewart

Arthur Hunnicutt
Jack Elam
Walter Brennan

Let’s hear it for the sidekicks!

To be a bit more serious, Gary Cooper.
And Audie Murphy.

Russell Crowe?!? On the basis of what exactly?

Ditch him and add Tom Mix, Glenn Ford, and Henry Fonda.

His IMDb resume’ includes several Westerns, perhaps most notably

3:10 to Yuma

Yes, they were from the silent days, but Anderson created the Hollywood image of the cowboy, and Hart was nearly as big an influence.

I was pretty sure that some of these names looked familiar here at SDMB so I did some looking and found
Best Western (movie) which ran from 03-21-2010, 10:46 AM through 04-03-2010, 07:21 AM

and which led to
Best Western (not the motel chain) which was up from 04-03-2010, 12:30 AM until 04-05-2010, 12:17 PM (and may still be accepting votes!)

There may be other such threads, so I’ll look some more.

If you know of similar threads please post a link.

Hey, you left Lee Marvin’s horse off the list. The horse shared an Oscar - he needs to be represented!

In his Oscar acceptance speech, Lee Marvin concluded by saying, “I think, though, that half of this belongs to a horse somewhere out in San Fernando Valley,” a reference to the horse Kid Shelleen rode, which appeared to be as drunk as Shelleen was.
