What's the biggest change to your life since you joined the Dope?

Many of us have been around here awhile. Long enough to have gone through some major life changes. Some of us just recently found the dope via Google and revived a long dead thread. No matter, what big life change has happened since you joined.

Since I joined, I have gotten a divorce, remarried, and had two more kids.

What about you?

I’ve had 7 different boyfriends since I joined in 2001.

I got a dog in 2002, bought a house in 2005, dog died in 2014, I got 2 new dogs by the end of the year.

Geez is my life boring as fuck.

Laid off for 10 months.
Took a new job with a 100 mile commute.
Separated and going through a divorce.
Found out my son is transgendered.

Other than that, not much.

Marriage. Three babies. Diabetes diagnosis. Mother died. Abandoned writing.

Divorced my first wife. Met a Doper. Married the Doper.

I’m counting that as a single event.

I found out Leaffan was Canadian:eek:

My wife and I retired.
We relocated to Oregon from Alaska.
I met my 1st cousin for the first time at age 62.

My sister died.
My brother has had both legs amputated.
Our cat of 20 years died.

Why did you abandon writing, if you don’t mind me asking.

My wife and I had two kids.

We moved from Ohio back to Missouri (not quite to “home”, but close).

My father died.

Those are the big ones I guess.

Dad passed away, 2001.

Bought a house, 2007.

Mom passed away, 2008.

Company I worked for, for 25 years or so, was taken over by a much larger outfit, 2010. Still there.

Underwent radiation treatments for prostate cancer, 2015.

Wish there was more fun stuff to mention, but there just doesn’t seem to be that much. Need to do something about that.

It wasn’t getting me what I wanted.

Lost my last remaining in-law and changed jobs. Other than that SOS-DD.

Brain haemorrhage in 2003.
Graduated with first class honours and commenced my PhD in 2012.
Bought a house in 2013.
Married in 2014.

13 moves, 27 countries visited, 2 degrees, 1 marriage, 1 kid, and almost an unimaginable amount of growing up.

Laid off

Found another job

Said to hell with finding another job

Kids went off to college, moved out.

Joined the board in October 2001.

Mom died in November 2006.

I retired in February 2015 after 42 years.

B.A., B.S., M.A., Ph.D., postdoc, first real job, first new car, first house, first cat, husband, house renovation, daughter born, five pregnancies lost, started a company, discovered a love of writing mediocre escapist fiction, and now we’re trying to move cross country.

Changed job & moved in 2008

Bought a condo in 2009

Discovered the awesomeness of Kesha’s music in late 2009 or early 2010

In which way was this a big change to your life?

Is this serious?
