Literary Sportsmen/Women

This thread reminds me that Albert Camus, in addition to winning a Nobel Literature prize, kept goal for either the Algerian national team or an Algerian university side. I read conflicting reports at various websites regarding his achievements at football.

I know also that Samuel Beckett was a keen cricketer, especially in his youth, although I do not think he played the game at a particularly exalted level.

I am curious to know whether there are any other literary giants whose sporting achievments are worthy of note. I exclude autobiographies from this exercise.

Many thanks

Do you consider fishing and hunting sports? If so, Hemingway was well-known in those arenas.

I was thinking more along the lines of writers who also represented their club/state/county/country in a competitive sport.

This is not to denigrate Hemingway’s success at fishing and hunting.
