Good, cheap travel insurance?

I'm travelling to the US (LA) from October 18th - 30th from the UK and need some travel insurance. There are two of us, and we need only basic insurance - we're on a very tight budget. Does anyone have any recommendations? Or even better, does anyone know of a site that compares different company's insurance packages? Google searches haven't yielded much, and I'd appreciate the help.

I am going to Saudi Arabia on October 13th. The cheapest insurance quote I got was through HSBC, but it was fairly comprehensive and for a family of four. Apart from that, the others I called were all pretty similar. I have found the online sites not very helpful, but there must be one or two good ones that someone will recommend soon.
