I heard U2's "In Gods Country" on the radio today and it made me think of the movie Three Kings, and how much I enjoyed the transfer from last scene to end credits. I guess this post is to ask what "last scene/closing credits" songs have genuinely added to your enjoyment of a movie? I have a short list:

Three Kings, "In Gods Country", U2
American Pie, "One Week", Bare Naked Ladies
Clueless, "Tenderness", General Public
Private Parts, "No Rain", Blind Mellon

I figured if there were any other people who pay attention to this kind of thing, they could be found here on the SDMB. If not, I hope this thread moves off of the first page quickly so the failure of my first OP doesn't haunt me for the next few days each time I log in.

There were two or three songs played through the closing credits of Oh Brother Where Art Thou that made it worth while sitting there and watching the lengthy credits roll by.

To Die For - Help!

Does anybody remember the song at the end of To Die For? I remeber the scene, Illeana Douglas was ice skating on the pond where Nicole Kidman's body was frozen/buried (I think), but I can't remember the song. Anyone?

Watsonwil -
I can't believe I had forgotten about There's Something About Mary. Possibly the most I've laughed during closing credits. The Birdcage/We are Family was also a great one.

"Gayane Ballet Suite" at the end of Aliens. This piece was also played during the scenes which showed the everyday life on board the spaceship for Dave and Frank in *2001, A Space Odyssey*. It's a haunting, sad piece which I have yet to be able to dig up anywhere other than on the soundtrack of *2001*.

(You've got to Have ) Friends sung by the still-not-yet-well-known Bette Midler at the end of The Last of Sheila, circa 1972. An unexpectedly nice ending to one of the best and most convoluted mystery movies ever.

The end of William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet with Radiohead's "Exit Music (For A Film)". As far as I know, the song was written specifically for the movie and it really fits the somber tone of the movie's ending.

Haunting.
Of course, The Crow is one of those movies I may take just a tad too seriously.

drillrod, I was just about to say that. I've been a Jane Siberry fan for years, and hearing that when I first saw The Crow gave me a near-fatal case of goosebumps.

If you remember the Al Pacino fiasco Sea of Love, you'll probably remember the ending credit song; Tom Waits covering Sea of Love. Only reason to see the movie, IMHO.

I've got that on CD, which identifies it as "Invention" by Aram Kachaturyan (it also has his ubiquitous "Saber Dance," required music for spinning dinner dishes on dowelsticks; and his "Spartacus," which was used extensively in the Hudsuscker Proxy).

I second "Don't Forget About Me" From "Breakfast Club".

Samuel Barber's "Adagio for Strings" (? IIRC - I know it's Barber, anyway) from "Alien".

Written by my favorite film composer, Jerry Goldsmith! (He did the original "Planet of the Apes", "LA Confidential", "Omen" and about a million others.) Dan Hill sang the song, melody by Goldsmith. (Great score, BTW. All the "Rambo" scores are great. However, I've never seen any of the films, except for the original "First Blood", which I saw once.)

[The End Apocalypse Now]

IIRC, The End is not strictly the closing credits song. An audio montage plays over the napalm attack and the closing credits.

I agree!

------------------------

I also agree with many of the choices in the previous posts.

Here's one not yet mentioned: Mark Knopfler's "Theme from Local Hero" during the closing credits of that marvelous movie with Burt Lancaster and Peter Reigert.

I agree so much! Thank you for reminding me of that one! I have a Knopfler CD, and whenever I hear that piece, I am taken back to that film, and think of Reigert sitting, all lonely in his cushy apartment in Texas, missing all his new friends back in Scotland (?). What a great film, what a great score.

Not the greatest movie of all time, but I'll never forget how I started bawling when the credits rolled and the song "Nature Boy" (by Nat King Cole) started playing at the end of "Untamed Heart." <sniff, sniff>

I've never seen it, but I'm surprised no one has mentioned An Officer and a Gentleman, "Love Lift us Up (Where we Belong)."

Also, it's been a while since I've seen it, but I think An American Werewolf in London ends with CCR's "Bad Moon Rising."

"Busload of Faith" by Lou Reed at the end of "True Believer." (1989) Great ending to a great flick!

And while it's not a closing film credit, one of "The Sopranos" episodes last season closed with "Show Me the Money," by Dan Hicks and the Hot Licks. It was perfect.

It takes all types

Pashnish Ewing,
good 1st thread!

I liked that Bryan Adams number* at the end of 'Prince of Thieves'.

And how about TV programs - the Who doing 'Who are you?' over the credits of CSI (a jolly fine program, with science and plots!)

*it shows how old I am that I can't remember the title**

**as this is the SDMB, it'll take about 5 minutes for someone to post the answer

I think it was "Midnight Special." I know the scene: John Lithgow is all trussed up in a straight jacket and put into an ambulance. Dan Ackroyd is the driver, and pops a casette in the tape player. Lithgow smiles and says, "I LOVE Creedence" just before Ackroyd says, "You want to see something REALLY scary?"

That's Vera Lynn doing "We'll Meet Again" at the close of "Dr. Strangelove." If you've listened to "The Wall" you'll remember the song "Vera" - "Does anybody here remember Vera Lynn?" "We'll Meet Again" was very big in England during WWII.

"Oh La La," by the Faces, closed "Rushmore" IIRC. That one worked pretty well.

Did "Rock Around The Clock" play over the credits to "Blackboard Jungle?" If so, that takes the cake. That blew the lid off the whole damn thing.

"Sympathy for the Devil," Guns n' Roses, Interview with the Vampire--it was such a perfect choice to end the movie on an evilly triumphant note as the revived Lestat drives off with the newly bitten Christian Slater.

"Miss Misery" from Good Will Hunting--Mournful tune appropriate for the end.

"That's the Hell of It" from Phantom of the Paradise
"Good for nothing, bad in bed
Nobody loved you, you're better off dead"--Great stuff!

I'm kind of ashamed to admit this.

Have you seen Legally Blonde? It wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be... and at the end, there was a song that really got my toes a-tappin'.

[/b]Perfect Day[/b], by Hoku. Yes, Hoku- whose last name is Ho. (Heck, if my last name was Ho, I think I'd drop it, too.)

As in DON Ho. Tiny Bubbles Don Ho.

She's his daughter.

She's also a babe. Britney ain't got nothin' on Hoku.

God I'm so embarrassed.

Neil Young's performance at the end of "Philidelphia" nearly brought me to tears! (and i'm a tough-guy-non-crying-type-he-man-thing)

the michael mcdonald song at the end of the south park movie is funny enough to make you wet yourself if you pay attention to the words

we'll met again at the end of dr. strangelove is classic

get right back (very cheesy song, i know) at the end of slapshot leaves you feeling like things may just work out for the poor charlestown chiefs (i love that movie-- strother martin immitating someone jerkin off can make you laugh at a funeral!)
