For some reason my preferences aren't being stored. The screen said it might help if I deleted all the cookies and reset them. Tried it. No help.

Everytime I log on to the message board it acts like it's the first time. No little light bulbs, for example. I set my preferences (topics from last day, save my user name and password) and it works then, but of course I just logged on a few seconds ago so I don't know which forums/threads have been updated since the last time I really logged on.

Any help?

Seriously, sounds like you have the option to accept all cookies to "off".

Also, I heard that the newest versions of Netscape does a horrible job of handling cookies. Maybe that's what is wrong.

Everything Louie said is correct. Probably especially the "eating your cookies" part. (Nice touch there, especially the C. M. blue!)

If you're one of the folks using Netscape, there are some bugs. Some of them have to do with Y2K issues, others with the newest version out there.

There's probably also a glitch on our side too, as soon as our tech guys stop putting out Y2K fires, they promise to come see us.

In the meantime . . .I'm really sorry for your troubles and wish we could do more to help.

Yup...I think it's a Netscape problem. I use 4.7 and all my cookies disappeared at Y2K and can't be recreated. I need to resubscribe to everything (not just here, my NY Times reg got wiped as well) every time I go in.

Oh No! Me No Like!

Yes, I just upgraded to Netscape Communicator 4.7. At work. At home I'm using (shudder) the generic browser with the non-copyrighted name "internet explorer". And the cookies work fine.

Thanks for the Straight Dope. I will stop trying to fix it and will wait for the fix to come to me.
