As the subject states, Sweden's sexiest Doperette (sorry Soda) and I are no longer dating. That's because, as of 23.50 on Tuesday 20 March 2001, Anniz and I are engaged.

We've been discussing this for a few weeks, and we've already started preparing for our wedding, which, INS-permitting, will be sometime this summer or fall (... or next winter ...). So, it was no real surprise to her when I popped the question. There's no ring, alas , as I can't afford one now in my state of unemployment. But, I did promise her one someday, and I know she'll take me up on that in the future.

And I won't mind, because I love her.

Rah! Rah! Rah! Yea! Go Fair kindreds, Anniz and Montfort.

Good luck to you both!

Isn't it interesting how manny couplings (of the long-term sort) we've seen here?

Again, best wishes, y'all!

I think dating people you meet over the Internet is unnecessarily dangerous and no one should ever, ever do it. Wading through smoky bars is the right way to meet people.

Wow

Thank you everyone, really. Anniz is asleep now, and I told her I'd surprise her in the morning (she gets up before me) when she checks the SDMB. I know her smile will be bigger than mine when she reads this thread.

MysterEcks: Yep. And baseball, and hockey, and even basketball (pro and NBA)... Just today, actually, I tried to get her excited about the Phillies winning an exhibition game. :P

Snooooopy: Personally, I was rather fond of bathroom walls before I found the SDMB.

Geobabe: Do the deed? Huh, what do you think we were doing before I popped the question?

Oh, that deed. Since I'm being queried by weirddave on ICQ now about it, I'll explain it in this post...

The plan is to get married in Las Vegas. Why Vegas, Dave asked? Because that's where Elvis is. (Of course, he retorted that he's the new QB for the Ravens, but I digress.) We hope to be married by Elvis Presley at one of those cheap and tacky wedding chapels on the Strip. When the time comes, I'm sure I'll be starting an IMHO thread asking about Vegas, as I've never been there.

Due to the geography of our friends and families, Anniz's being in Sweden, of course, and mine being mostly on the east coast, we're not planning on inviting too many people to the actual wedding. Right now, the only definite invite is my brother, who lives in LA.

So, to appease our family and friends who aren't within driving distance of Elvis and showgirls, we're going to have two big-ass parties; one around DC, and the other in Stockholm. I'll be sure to make sure part of the DC party is yet another DC Dopefest, so watch this space.

I will graciously overlook the heart-sinking your misleading thread title caused.

::smacks Montfort across the chops with a herring; a live herring::

Now that I'm through being gracious (mop those fish scales offa yer nose already) let me express what happy, stupendous news this is. It's always a miracle when two hearts meet but it's even more wonderful when the bond proves strong enough to meld lives into a joined future.

In all seriousness, two nicer people than Montfort and Anniz couldn't be imagined.

Not quite as seriously...can we help plan the wedding? If nothing else we can horrify both sides of the family and make them pitifully grateful that Montfort and Anniz chose each other instead of those bizarre people hanging around. (Can we rent the Flying Elvii Skydiving team?)

The incapacity and lack of imagination to love is the worst Ignorance of all.

Congratulations to both of you.

Veb

"Anniz, go hijack a small Mig fighter jet. Man, scram far away into the sky!"

This is, of course, only an approximation.

I hardly "know" Montfort, though he is usually one of the two or three posters who will reply to my "Sink like a rock" screenwriting threads, and have never interacted in a thread with Anniz, however... many years ago, when I was in the Marines, making about 700 bucks a month (big money for a po' Kentucky farmboy), I was getting married, and my friends, when they discovered that I was unable to even purchase a set of Wal-Mart cheapie rings, pitched in and bought a set for my wife and I.

It is a kindness that I have never forgotten. The marriage did not last, but their kindness to me still lives on.

I propose that we help these two good folks out. Surely, if we all popped for five bucks, Montfort could at least make a down payment on a ring suitable to demonstrate his love and committment to his lady.

Send me an address and a "real" name. My check is already made out.

Sir Rhosis

Wooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!

Congratulations you two!!!!!!!

*has so many warm fuzzy feelings he may explode*

It's wonderfull heartwarming when two people meet and fall in love. It's even more special when they do so in dificult circumstances and have to overcome difficulties such as distance - something that some may see as insurmountable. Even better when you do it within a community (voyeuristic little bunch we are) who have had the honour and pleasure to watch every step.

Your happiness is not only truly shared but provides hope and inspiration as well.

Congrats, Montfort and Anniz!

Though, like many others, you almost had a heart attack victim on your hands. That will teach me never to come in and see what's on the boards at 2am... especially if I don't have time to check the threads!

I wish you both all the happiness in the world. If anyone deserves it, it's the both of you!

No, it's fish that's been soaked in lye. It's actually not as bad as it sounds.

Anyhoo... Congrats, guys! And I'd like to say that I'm in on that ring business, too.

Have you considered a faux diamond in the meantime?

Muy congrats to you both! I am so jealous of the Vegas wedding plans -- I always wanted to be married by an Elvis impersonator. It's just so tacky -- actually beyond tacky into post-tacky. However, you do know that the obvious wedding present for people who get married in Vegas is a painting of Elvis on velvet? Be frightened, be very frightened.

Jess (who's off to Ebay -- do you guys prefer old Elvis or young?)
