I don't know whose idea is was to add this useless option but they ought to be shot.

I could barely swallow the "old" smilies and some posters' insistance on using the antiquated "lol".

Dis no one learn anything from the "Smilie War" thread on the LBMB?

Yer right, Chief. I think we more useful icons. Like a cocked pistol pointed at the head of a smilie, an extended middle finger and mabye a bare ass with a big round brown in middle of it.

I also see the "quote shortcut" being abused, too.

Someone'll make a cute post and everyone will be reposting it and then others will be reposting the repost. We'll end up re-reading the same thing over and over, or we'll have to continually scroll to avoid all the bullshit.

The only way I could imagine these changes could have been worse is if they implemented them on a Monday morning. [insert asshole icon here]

So, that would make this the most irritating post imaginable.

I don't really mind the smilies, but I agree that we need more expressive icons. Especially for the pit.

So, here's my list of icons we really need but don't have. Most of these are pretty self-explainatory:

:stoned:
sycho:
:heretic:
:communist:
:racist:
:fanatic:
:troll:
:deadtroll:
:fuckyou:
:yakfelch:
:eatshit:
:goingpostal:

And here's a few specialty icons for those questions we all know and love:

:drivebyshooting: - For the driveway/parkway question.
:ATMhitandrun: - For the braille on drive-up ATM's question.
:GRYdiediedie: - For the question that shall not be named.

And finally, the icon we definately NEED for this board:

Yannow...the suggested icons ARE within our power. Two things have to be done first--the .GIFs must be created (easy), and Admin needs to hack the UBB script to insert the triggers which invoke the .GIFs (kinda easy)....

Sylence, that is why we have the "disable smilies" option. Check it out

Of course, don't listen to me. I like the smilies.

Point #1:
I like Cessandra.

Point #2:
I dispise smiley icons.

Point #3:
Disable smilies only works when I make a post. I can't disable other poster's smilies.

Conclusion:
Possibly re-think Point #1.

That'd be cool, if it weren't for the smilies, and that they were animated...

Now Chief (said sternly), I am suprised that a man of your stature and experience would pitch a wall-eyed hissy fit over a few little smiley. Drawing and quartering are plainly inappropriate.

What would be appropriate is tying down the smiley creators, surrounding them with Tickle Me Elmo dolls and piping in Kathie Lee Gifford's Greatest Hits 24 hours a day.

Actually neutral on smileys,
Veb

I've never used smileys... the one time one appeared it had to have been inserted by a mod, and I wondered about the ethics of that.

But they seem like fun.

I don't like the grinnin gopher face.

How 'bout one with a blacked out tooth to indicate a Hickfest?

Or one with red hair to drive UncleBeer out of his mind?

I shall abandon my hissy-fit and confine my anti-smiley campaign to my sig line.

I thank you for your tolerance.

ChiefScott, I am pleading with you to understand that those of us whom have recently defected from the LBMB will take some time to get certain habits out of our systems. This includes the well known , the "bump" phenomenon and please don't forget the ROFLOL .

I was warned fairly about your aversion, and I promise I will try my best. It's just so hard quitting cold turkey. I may need to wean myself. Find some 12 Step program.

Peace
