24: Season 4: Episode 6 (12:00pm - 1:00pm)

I liked that the cut-to-commercial composite/clock shot showed both Terror Kid and Anarchist Boy saying “No! No!” in unison.

“My daddy turned me over to a murderous hatchet-man!”

“My daddy turned me over to psy-ops interrogation spooks!”

They have got to be best friends by the end of the day.

So where do you think Audrey recognizes The Third caucasian Man from? Seen with her husband in a business context? Seen with her dad in an official context? Seen with baby bro in a dreadlock-wigged and patchouli-scented disguise context?

The raid scene was totally fantastic. It made me suddenly want a properly developed 24 1st person shooter.

I missed Chloe in this episode. I missed Chloe in this episode. I hope Jack re-enlists her on the sly soon. I’d like to see her hooked up with Terror Kid in the field, working together to figure out what’s going on, in contact with Jack by cell – I think they’d have good chemistry together. Hee hee hee.

At first I thought that the creating-extra-loads-on-the-internet plot was totally stupid – and then I remembered how peppy the internet was on September 11th, 2001. So it’s not totally stupid. (I guess it makes a little sense if the NRC’s high-security servers are colocated with CNN.com.) Okay, okay, I’ll be alright if I can invoke the shade of John Roebling to help with my suspension of disbelief.

yet unlike Jack, he’s (a) thoroughly unlikeable and (b) bears a startling resemblance to the head of the undercover agency in Monsters Inc.

Ooh look, Aisha Taylor’s a spy!, like we didn’t see that coming the first time she showed up…

TerrorKid is a dork who should have taken the shovel and gun, but it was nice that his girlfriend’s intended final resting place had a great view of the L.A. valley.

And as for the universal nuclear remote: good god that’s a fucked-up idea. Hello? McFly? Anybody home? Make a device that can shut down every nuclear power plant in the country, and then make the unescorted courier take Amtrak! People is dumb…

(Enters thread with eyes closed tight…)

Ummm…My VCR held some sort of protest against me & decided not to work last night. Anyone feel like sending a tape of the show to the guy who, up untill now, hasn’t missed an episode in 3+ seasons?

If so, you can contact me with the E-Mail address in my profile.

Thank you for your time.

(Covers ears & runs out of thread)

I was wondering why they took out the body before the hole was dug. Have we not learned anything from watching Casino?

Oh, goodie! I was hoping this would happen.

Can I just chime in at this point to say there are WAAAY too many nicknames to follow these threads anymore?

So is the ‘minor’ leak being reported at a Michigan nuclear plant just a coincidence?

I forgot to watch! Waaaahhhh!

The remote control nuclear plant control device made me say out loud “colon-rolleyes-colon”. What a ridiculous plot device.

but Jack does kick ass.

Jack: “And what exactly was in that briefcase?”

Military-Industrial Complex Guy: “Oh, just a little thingy that allows the user to remotely control every single nuclear facility in the country, that’s all.”

Jack: "WHAT???"

MICG: “Oh, don’t worry! It can’t be used for evil purposes.”

Jack: “Are you sure?”

MICG: “Pretty sure.”

Jack: “What do you mean pretty sure?”

MICG: “Well, I guess technically it’s POSSIBLE that someone could use it to cause hundreds of simultaneous meltdowns thus resulting in Doomsday. But that’s highly unlikely, because we have a firewall.”

Jack: “Could anyone get past the firewall?”

MICG: “Naaaaah!”

Jack: “Are you sure?”

MICG: “Pretty sure.”

Jack: “WHAT??”

MICG: “Well, unless they tried to, like, distract us all by putting something on the Internet, like another Paris Hilton sex tape or the attempted execution of the Secretary of Defense. In which case we’d have to kiss civilization goodbye, but that’s highly un–”

Jack: (Kicks over table and starts taking hostages)

So far we have the Terror Family, with Terror Dad, Terror Mom and Terror Kid.

The Black lady at CTU is Mini-Sherry Though I personally called her Ms Manipulative

the Sec Def’s Son is Anarchy Boy

The Sec Defs Daughter is “Soon to be Doomed” Anybody dumb enough to fall for Jack Bauer eventually bites it.

Great episode.

Did Beruuz (sp?) pick up the pistol after he whacked his would-be executioner? It looked like he left it there. Dumb ass.

You would think that all cell calls out of CTU would be monitored - could they even use cellys inside of the building last year? And whoever said there should be a more complete vetting process is absolutely right - ‘you work in this field? Sure, come on in!’

I remain convinced that the SecDef’s son doesn’t know dick and that it was Audrey (or, as her husband says, ‘Auuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuudrey’, this season’s answer to Claaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaw-dia) who told someone, b/c she’s a baddie.

The ‘mole’ from the end of the episode made me think of Gael - we’re supposed to think she’s a bad guy, but I’m betting she works for another gov’t agency (i suppose that technically means she could still be a badguy) and is on ‘our’ side. Writers are trying to trick us.

Nitpick: he wasn’t unescorted. The first episode clearly showed a guy packing heat sitting a few rows behind the courier. The escort presumably died in the train crash.

But yeah, people is dumb. You’d think the big bad defense contractor could afford an actual secure courier service. You know, an armored car or a private jet or something. Or at least a receptionist smart enough to look at the news and say “Hey, didn’t we have a courier transporting potentially dangerous and highly classified technology on that train? Maybe we should tell someone about that.”

Thanks, DCU, for posting this thread… I wasn’t near a computer all day, and had forgotten anyway. More thoughts from my corner of the peanut gallery later…

Still, it was Amtrak, which pretty much anyone in Homeland Security would tell you is about the most vulnerable form of transportation to a terrorist attack.

Amtrak!

The train that gets the least amount of priority at any crossing.

“Hey, we’ve got a valuable object here. But we’ve got to wait for a 100-car long train full of auto parts to go past first.”

I agree. I think she works for the DoD, and is (not unreasonably, given the history of CTU) “keeping an eye on” the situation rather than relying on official channels.

This was a pretty good episode.

I knew the Beav was going to wise up sooner or later. He really needs to hook up with older brother, Wahlid, to help him out of this jam. It’s pretty clear that TerrorFahdur was the decision maker in taking the kid out, although they don’t come out and say it. My guess is that the Beav somehow hooks up with TerrorMom and they end up helping CTU.

I gotta agree that the high tech nuclear shut-down device is absurd. Even if we suspend belief and agree that a such a device might exist, surely there would be a different device for each plant. Instead, we get the Ultimate Universal Remote!

I really enjoyed the episode, but is the plot really going to be that the terrorists are going to take control of the nuclear reactors over the web?

Nuclear Technician: Hello?

Jack: This is Jack Bauer at CTU. You need to unplug your ethernet connection.

NT: What? Why? I want to keep watching this TerrorTrial streaming video!

Jack: UNPLUG THE CABLE! The terrorists are hacking your system!

NT: Relax, guy, I have WinXP SP2. It has a built-in firewall, you can’t hack that.

Jack: Pull the cable or I’ll come cut it with my hacksaw!

But they said numerous times that the plygraph shjowed he was lying, or at least holding something back, when they asked him if he told anyone his dad was stopping by. And polygraphs are actually very accurate, especiallly on someone like the Sec Def son, who is very nervous and clearly doesn’t know a thing about trying to fool one (and besides, you fool it into thinking you aren’t lying.)
