Ask a guy with a Medical Marijuana card anything.

In CO, the dispensary either goes to pick it up, or the person delivering is a caregiver or has a card themselves. My wife and I live waaay up at 8200-ft and our neighbor [couple doors down] is a known grower - she’s in her late 40’s, ex-hippy and good at her craft. She delivers it whenever the order comes in.

I think this conclusively proves the point… Enzyte wasn’t (isn’t?) a legitimate drug like Viagra. It was just penis-enlarging snake oil that marketed itself like a legitimate drug, and it apparently fooled a lot of people into thinking it was real.

Exactly.

I didn’t mean to quote the last part of **DCnDC **post though… I know there are different types, and they all have different effects. I don’t know if they are all needed for medical reasons, I didn’t mean to agree or disagree with that part.

Have you seen Dave?

Fully legal and regulated? 12 or so, decriminalized to the point that it is probably legal? 4-8. Yes it is very immient, for those who do not follow the news of it, the legalisation of MJ has taken a bigger step in the last couple years, then in the last 30. The time is going to come, infact had it been on the ballot with obama I think it probably would have passed.

How close to state lines do you live? A more serious note its kinda funny when I cross the CA/NV state border I see 5 MJ shops like they were casinos right on the border, I am sure people living in NV have cards from CA

Yes, many times a day

Nope, there are over 100 different types of canaboids, THC is just the most well known of them and the most potent, different combos can have different effects. For example I mostly use Sativa blends which do not make you tired and do not mess with your short term memory as much as a Indicia Purple would, some will just numb your whole body, which is one I do not need.

Stays low key? Middle managment type if he applied himself?

Yes. Those names aren’t so bad though. The ones that bother me are “green crack” and “herojuana” and stuff like that. If you want to keep with the fact that its nothing like those drugs nor a gateway to them, don’t give the strains names like that. I find the practice somewhere between foolish to just plain irresponsible.

Or Charlie Sheen OG (which I couldn’t afford)

If you were flying from one California city to another (San Diego up to Oakland, for example) what are you supposed to do with your medicine?

Would you just put it in your pocket and march thru the TSA screening checkpoint?

Put it in your carry-on?

Bring nothing with you and just head to a dispensary in Oakland?

As the TSA is a Federal department, and marijuana is still illegal on a Federal level, are you risking arrest by flying with cannabis?

The argument about the namees of different strains of weed seems silly because there are lots of mixed drinks with stupid names…slippery nipple, orgasm, sex on the beach. Most of these strains have been around long before legal weed.

There are sites like this one that explain the properties of different strains and what they are good for from a medical perspctive.

You also have to take into account how and where you are going to grow it. Different strains do better outside and some are made to grow inside and don’t do well outdoors. Some can grow 10 to 15 feet high, not a good idea for your bedroom closet.

Just for the record my knowledge comes from the fact that someone very close to me is a licensed medical user.

I live 18 miles from the GA/FL line. Sadly, neither state has med. marijuana. I am probably at least 3-4 states away from a MM state.

Does it come with instructions? If you are unable/unwilling to smoke, what are the alternatives, other than the ubiquitous brownies? Can you, for example, sprinkle it on a salad? I guess that won’t help if you are too nauseated to eat.

This is one of the good things to come from MMJ. A lot of dispensaries are now incredibly well-healed, and the “science” of administering THC and the other cannabinoids is no longer confined to little old ladies’ kitchens. There’s an amazing assortment of ingestible pot products being created in professional kitchens now.

There is also something called a vaporizer, which heats smoke-able pot just to the point of vaporizing the active ingredients, without combusting the rest of the plant matter which makes inhalation much safer.

I’ll drop it after this post, but clearly you have completely missed my point.

Alcohol, aside from certain obvious restrictions of which we are all familiar, is both completely legal and is almost universally consumed on a recreational basis.

Marijuana OTOH is still illegal and subject to the Controlled Substance Act. I do believe in its medicinal benefits, but my point is that its legitimate medicinal value will continue to draw skepticism from those opposed to its legalization as long as those participating in its “legal” distribution continue to behave in a manner that evokes recreational drug culture. People give cocktails cutesy names because it’s a fun, recreational activity. Giving cutesy, fun names derived from recreational drug subculture to a substance that is struggling to be accepted as legitimate medicine is only doing the opposition’s work for them.

How much is typical to be used? I heard a report on NPR this morning that a state -Arizona?- that just legalized allowed 2 1/2 oz per two weeks. Having been an, at times heavy, recreational user, that seems like a huge amount.

That does sound like a lot, but when you start cooking with it, I think it generally takes at least 4x the amount for the same effect. Even at that, people can experience very different effects from eating vs. smoking, so it isn’t just as simple as this amount cooked equals that amount inhaled.

I am told NV has its own cards (how things have changed in a few years). They are several times more expensive I believe. I have seen zero dispensaries up north, except there are one or two in S. Lake Tahoe, but not on the border. There are no towns on the border, though. OTOH, the South Lake Tahoe, CA/Stateline, NV border has casinos pop up right on the border. Also I-80’s pavement gets much smoother on the NV side.

I have flown with it but its not worth the trouble if I flew I would either check it, hidden or go without

They have pills, hot sauce, butter, candy, lots of different things you could eat

In my county I can have 9 ounces on me. In my state 6, so usually I wouldn’t go over 6 which is a lot

I live in Colorado as well (Denver) and someone I know has one of the most successful dispensaries in town. But here’s the thing: I agree that when you have cutesey names, pot awards, edibles (pot cheesecake?) and a pizzeria in your shop and say you address the needs of your “patients” and the majority of docs granting these cards are freaking chiropractors…then yes, you make a mockery of it all. NOT helpful.

If your goal is to legalize pot because you’re a stoner, fine. But don’t try to disguise that. Don’t make it about “people with medical issues” because if that were really the case, you’d cut down on the overhead, stop making a mockery of marijuana’s legitimacy as a medical drug, and have a full blown wellness clinic.

but yeah. it’s about pot. shrug i have nothing against it, but the ‘green health’ dispensaries make me roll my eyes.

Look, it is the growers that frequently give the particular strain the name - Maui Wowie, Acapoulco Gold, Jamaican Lambsbreath, Matanusa Thunderfuck, all traditional hippie names. Herrer in a name refers to a weed activist from Canada, Jack Herrer who just died recently. It is generally not the dispensaries responsible for naming. Skunk - named for the characteristic smell, White Widow, known for looking very white from the trichomes all over it. NY Diesel, again with a distinctive smell. Bubblegum Kush, fruity smell. Purple Haze - again named for its color.

Frequently the state regulations do not allow an on site doctor, so what would you like? If the damned feds would get their heads out of their asses we could actually make some sort of actual sensible legislation. Leaving it to individual states is not the way to go - you get an incomprehensible mishmash of regulations that change state by state, and county by county.

My dream dispensary is a cool, calming space with neutral colored walls, pale bamboo flooring, planters of assorted plants like ferns for the oxygen transpiration cycle and air clearing ability. It would have a small entryway that has a person sitting at a desk with a computer and a thumbprint or retina scan and a card reader to validate patients to let them in. It would have clerks that have product knowledge, and a couple educators to help you learn about usage, dosage, processing into edibles if that is what you want, and how to help manage your symptoms by selecting strains and dosages. I would have a contract set with several pain clinics and a set number of clients with known prescriptions, though we would see anybody with a valid card. The educators would have a private area [HIPPA] and the clerks would be set up with a secure area. There would be a bit of a sitting area for people waiting for the educators. Other than small children with their parents, the people coming in would be alone or with caregivers - hangers on would not be allowed in.
