Bands named after places they are not from.

Though I’ve never heard of them, I was sure they must exist:

Hell are from Derbyshire

Danzig - New Jersey.
Mission of Burma - Boston.
And Soviet France was neither Soviet nor French; they were English.

Well, for that matter, Sparks is not from Nevada! :stuck_out_tongue:

This practice goes back to the jazz age. The founding members of The California Ramblers were from Ohio. The Original Memphis Five weren’t from Memphis. The Charleston Chasers weren’t from Charleston. The Georgians weren’t from Georgia.

Brownsville Station = Ann Arbor, MI

Buffalo Springfield = neither Buffalo nor Springfield

Kansas actually was from Kansas, but they had previously called themselves Saratoga.

Styx were not from the Underworld.

Danzig aren’t named for the city any more than Van Halen was named after a city.

None of the boys in Fountains of Wayne are from Wayne (NJ).

That might make some sense if Glenn Danzig were the guy’s real name.

None of the Pet Shop Boys ever worked in a pet shop (though they had friends who did).

Bruno Mars was born and raised in Honolulu.

Chilliwack was from Vancouver.

Mannheim Steamroller - Omaha

It makes sense any way you want to look at it. Glenn was using the name for years (and in 2 bands) before he started his eponymous band. The band is named after him, not after the city or the city-state.

Coheed and Cambria are from Earth…

I’m pretty sure the Spiders were not from Mars.
mmm

Really impressed! Everything is very, very clear, open is a description of the problem. It contains the information.

Big in Japan were from Liverpool.

The Harlem Globetrotters were from Chicago.

Big Country is from Scotland, which is not a big country.
