At any rate, my point (which others have made more explicit) is that it’s reasonable to hold the occupants of high public office to a much higher standard than the one we hold media propagandanists to. And only Bush and Cheney hold higher office than Hastert, who is Speaker of the House; he’d be President if anything should happen to them both.
I’m all too aware of that - but unlike some, I absofuckinglutely refuse to condone it. If politics gets overwhelmed by lies and slander. how are people to make any rational choice between the candidates, or between the parties? So with full awareness that dirty politics will never go away, I will do what little I can to hold politicians accountable for their words.
Hastert’s a choad.
But let’s not make the mistake of canonizing Soros.
Not to mention the mistake of doing to Hastert what he did to Soros.

In this interview, Rep. Hastert is clearly trolling, attempting to tie Soros’s bank account to any number of Drug legalization/decriminalization PACs. Money from PACs goes to Soros, to MoveOn, then to the airwaves to attack President Bush.

Soros made his money through currency speculation. A damned difficult way to earn a little lucre, by anyone’s measure.

It would be so easy to dispel the rumors: All he has to do is get on camera, turn around, drop trou, bend over, and spread his ass cheeks. And yet he refuses. What does he have to hide?

According to Josh Marshall, Hastert is aggressively repeating his charges against Soros. Soros has responded with a fine put-up-or-shut-up letter. It’s in PDF, so I can’t C&P any quotes, but it illuminates the difference between our side and theirs.
