Famous Songs "Sampled" by Rap Hits

From Grelby

It’s ‘Stan’. The music video also featured Dido as Stan’s pregant girlfriend.

I think Stan was more of a duet, since Dido sang on the CD and is credited as co-performer.

Elwood covered the song on his 2000 album The Parlance of Our Time. Is that what you’re thinking of?

I couldn’t tell you Cerowyn - I wouldn’t recognize Elwood if he walked past me on the street, and I only heard a brief snippet of the song as I was walking through a store. But I can’t imagine too many people have sampled Sundown.

According to All Music Guide, people who have covered Lightfoot’s Sundown:[ul][]Claw Hammer (1990)[]Deryl Dodd (2002)[]Elwood (2000)[]Percy Faith (2001)[/ul]

I thought that might have been that title but I wasn’t sure. Not much imagination there.

Dr.Dre sampled a song called “Thodam Resham Lagta Hai” by Lata Mangeshkar on Truth Hurt’s song “Addictive”. So catchy.

By the way, anyone know what song was sampled for Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty”?

Mos Def sampled an Aretha Franklin song called “One Step Ahead.”

Wow, thanks!

This website has a search engine for samples:

Last updated October, 2002. Still mighty interesting.

Nas - Hate me now - sampled the score to the OMEn
Jay Z - H to the IZZO: Jackson 5 ithink its “I want you back”
Cocoa Brovas -Super Brooklyn, samples the super mario bros music. This is one of the coolest beats EVER

Also both Notorious BIG - one more chance remix and ashanti - Foolish sampled some DeBarge song

on a classical note:

Sting remade a piece by Prokovjiev into “The russians love their children too”

And there was this teenage-rapper (I think he was called Straight A or something?) that sampled Beethovens 5th symphonie.
