On the point of range, don’t forget that in a shooting war you tend to consume ammo too. A tank that never needs refueleing will still need a supply line to bring it ammo every couple of hours while in battle.
In DS1 & DS2 they spent a lot of time driving & relatively little time shooting. That was not typical of experience in other major combat events.
