I looked at the transcript, which is available on the Web site maintained by ripper’s brother. The weirdest thing is that there is an automated bot (Pnutbot) that is apparently set to react to certain kinds of statements. It’s the “participant” that keeps saying stuff like “ripper is a gangster!” So the one chatroom member who seems to be egging him on the hardest is a computer. That’s some weird shit.
Even more viscerally immediate than an IRC chat, there’s a news report today that a Florida teen killed himself on live Webcam this past Wednesday. And yes, there are reports that some of the viewers may have egged him on.
It’s a sad world.
