I have been told in the past that products containing gelatin strengthen fingernails.

I know that pineapple in jello keeps the gelatin from setting.

Is pineapple, by extension, therefore bad for the fingernails?

Only if you put it directly on the fingernails.

Will gelatin make fingernails stronger?

No again. Fingernails are mainly dead protein that get their strength from sulfur in amino acids. Gelatin doesn't contain these amino acids.

Perfecto! Thank you, DDG. This is, unfortunately, the kind of thing that runs through my head whilst sitting at traffic lights.

And by the way, it's only fresh pineapple that won't set. Canned pineapple works just fine.
