A friend "got" < cough > an MP3 song. It's clearly a bootleg of a live performance of a musical. He sent it to me saying "I think you'll like this." Th' bastard's right. I do.

I'd happily purchase the legitimate CD of whatever musical this was pirated from, based on this one song alone...but I don't know what it is. It's labeled "DC113.mp3" and there is NO MP3-ID tag info.

The lyrics of the first 1/4th of the song (I don't want to list the whole thing for obvious reasons) are:

Short and tall
One and all
Girls from everywhere
Do a dance
Take a chance
Rather than (the stair?)
You can fly
Stories high
if you do this step
Off we go
Nice and slow
Dance to get things moving
Stumbling all around
Gets us off the ground
Listen to the sound so breeeee-zy
stumb'ling as we rise
(Welcome to the skies?)
(< something something> thighs?)
You just step on your toes
And then you strike a pose
You lips like Clara Bowes
My fa'vrite star
Mine's Mary Pickford

It's clearly set in the early '20s, but I don't think it's "The Boyfriend" or "Thoroughly Modern Millie". Anyone have any ideas?

Are there any clues as to how old the recording is? That would help quite a bit.

Where are the gay dopers when you need 'em? ;)

I don't know what it is, but it's NOT "The Boyfriend."

Maybe we can at least arrive at it by process of elimination.....

Could it be from Anything Goes? Without the tune, I have a hard time remembering songs, but it is the right time period. Or maybe one of the Fred Astaire musicals?

It's not from Anything Goes. I know that musical, and don't know the song. The lyrics don't sound like Cole Porter lyrics, either.
