So, my g/f and I finished our Chinese meal, and went for the fortune cookies. She opened hers first and was toldHappiness will be yours next weekend Then I opened mine, and IT WAS EMPTY!!

So, what does an empty fortune cookie mean? I have no future? am I going to die then? Is my future not set? Or was someone at the fortune cookie factory having a bad day?

Dopers, I leave it to you.

What should my fortune have been?

Poor dogfish! I actually feel sad for you.

You've been cheated by a friggin' cookie for Christ's sake!

And an EVIL cookie for that matter. Leaving you with self-doubt, fear of the future and general mistrust of cookie manufacuring practices.

Please! somebody help poor dogfish!

I'll start:
The road to riches contains many forks, but sometimes you're just plain lost.

I believe it means your shoes will be filled with leeks in the days coming. Sucks, huh?

You will be agitated by an insignificant morsel of food stuff.

It means you are free to create your own fortune. Little chinese men in the factory have no control over you.

Clearly, your fortune, and thus your future, was defective.

You have no one to blame but yourself and everyone has you to blame, too.

Ah, the fortune probably had the winning numbers for the Irish Sweepstakes on the back, and some poor cookie-folder swiped it so they could claim the prize.

You are going to die because the empty state of said fortune cookie represents your lack of a soul. Repent and do good... oh nevermind, you're out of the "loop". Be free and do whatever the frig you want to, buddy!! Have fun!

Sweetness hapiness and light iirc. On an unrelated note, you're not in the same universe as me, are you? Would you mind moving over a bit?

Perhaps the fortune really was there, it was just invisible/out of phase/teleporting. It might mean that you are about to discover your latent mutant powers.

"Have you tried NOT being a mutant?"

It means that someone was sucking on your cookie back in the kitchen before they served it to you.

Or, it could mean - All you base are belong to us.

In 1924, the great mathematician Ernst Gödel proved that no system can be simultaneously complete and self-consistent.

I'm not sure which limit you've hit, [b]hybrid_dogfish[/i], but obviously you've hit something, perhaps the equivalent of a divide-by-zero error.

Buy lottery tickets, but make out your will.

You lucky dogfish ! An empty fortune cookie means Power! and Independence! You get to write your own ticket. Your future is your own!

Nothing exciting like that ever happens to me.

As the blackness enfolds you with inexorable tentacles, drawing ever closer to the vortex of death, remember that the trip is worth double flyer miles. :D

it means you should have sued the restaurant for short-changing you. you paid for a fortune cookie and all you got was a plain cookie. be sure to emphasize on the emotional distraught you felt at facing a future with no fortune/direction. ask for a million. at least.
