Well, if Paul didn't knowingly have anything to do with the kidnapping and attack, then that torture by Jack was a bit over the top, and his new girlfriend isn't going to be happy about it. But then one would think that he wouldn't be so close-mouthed about it, and unwilling to answer Jack's questions. He sure acted like he had something to hide.

Spoilers, kids.

Really. Sorta.

1. Good to see Curtis kick ass. It's nice to know that CTU agents other than Jack can kick some ass. Have we seen anyone besides Jack snap a neck before?

2. I probably missed it in one of the other threads...but I didn't know that The Mummy was Marwan. Huh.

That makes two actors who used to be bald going under cover as men with hair...

"Oh, now that we're here, I just realized we forgot to ask CTU to send over a picture of what Marwan looks like."

Or maybe CTU didn't have a photo in any profile. It had better be that, because otherwise, that smacks of serious incompetence in preparing an action against him and that building.

Eh, if he's 'some guy named Marwan', who knows? I'm willing to believe that they just couldn't dig up a picture in time.

In regards to Driscoll and Maya...

1. Bad actress. I'm sorry.

2. Looks like the 23-hour suicide watch isn't the success they'd hoped for.

I liked Tony's interrogation bit, too. He's changed -- he's much more willing to use Jack-like measures. "I will make it my personal business to see that you never find out what happens to your son."

Driscoll's "grief" didn't seem quite genuine -- it wasn't enough. I would think that initial shock would bring on a bigger breakdown.

Does anyone know when Ford is coming out with the special Jack Bauer Edition featuring pull out weapons containers?

What comes next in this season? I think they gave some idea when TerrorMom spoke of the "other cells".

Too bad about Driscoll's daughter, I am sure we all saw that one coming.

When is Chloe going to come back and bitchslap Edgar for stealing her thunder?

Eh, if he's 'some guy named Marwan', who knows? I'm willing to believe that they just couldn't dig up a picture in time.
Well, that's what I was hoping. Although they ran up a profile and found lots of connections to Marwan (members of other cells and such), so it would seem that there was already info out there to be found on him -- if so, it's hard to buy that there wouldn't be any photo available.
Although, maybe there wasn't all that much info -- I'll have to watch again to recall exactly what was said on the info they dug up.

1. Bad actress. I'm sorry.
You mean Driscoll, I presume? I totally agree. Her reactions just don't ring true.

I'd like to move we change Curtis's name to Black Bauer, because he kicked serious ass there. Yow!
Well, if Paul didn't knowingly have anything to do with the kidnapping and attack, then that torture by Jack was a bit over the top, and his new girlfriend isn't going to be happy about it.
No, I'm starting to think they're through. I don't know why the fuck he let her stay in the room. There HAS to be a CTU protocol about it, and even if there isn't it's totally stupid. For that matter, I don't know why Paul pulled a SecDef's Kid and refused to talk when he didn't have anything to hide. I guess we still don't know how the terrorists found out about Heller's location...

I found myself confused by next week's preview. I know they need to find Marwan, but since they've already saved all the plants it seems less urgent than the kind of thing they need. Probably the other cells will be put into play now. What's going to happen in the next episode of As The President Flies?

If they hold true to form, something about other bad guys in the company that developed the Universal Nuclear Remote Control -- probably more people from that place in league with the terrorists.

Yeah, you're right -- he shouldn't have let her stay in the room. There almost seemed to be a tender moment or two between Audrey and Paul in the van on the way to the BadGuyBuilding.

And if Paul truly didn't know anything, and was just being used to get close to the Hellers, you would think that he would be quick to help answer Jack's questions.
Jack: "There's a building you own that the terrorists used to plan the kidnapping."
Paul's reaction should have been: "What?! Are you sure? Well let's get on my laptop and figure out what the hell's going on!"

instead of his actual reaction, which was, of course...
"No, I'm not talking to you, you big wife-stealing poopyhead!"

I think Little Heller still knows something -- they never did get the info out of him. Anybody else think he'll be back? I think he told somebody he trusted, like a girl or something. Somebody who was using him to find out the info.

Rikwriter knows stuff.

And also, please everybody remember that the standard rule in the 24 threads has been to only discuss things from the aired episodes. Spoiler boxes should be used for advance info known about future shows, and this includes the "scenes for next week" -- since some folks flip the channel as soon as the clock ticks and don't watch next week's previews.

Thanks.

Yes, I know something. I've read spoilers that say that the defense corporation tries to cover up the fact that it was involved in this whole thing by trying to kill Jack and launching an attack of its own. Don't know specifics.

I'm feeling very dense: was there ANY point to including Maya in these scripts at all???

Sam Stone
02-28-2005, 11:46 PM
That whole Maya subplot was just lame. It should have wound up on the cutting room floor. It was not believable. Not just because of the acting, but the extreme nature of it and why her daughter wound up in CTU that day anyway. It just wasn't well written.

The rest of it, though, was really well done. I like how the plot led them to that location through several different threads of information. Someone did some good thinking there when they put the script together.

BobT

Yes, there was:

Because Driscoll will be too distraught, Tony, fresh off a noon drinking binge, will be named interim director of CTU.

None that I can think of, other than to give Driskoll a "human angle". How does a teenage girl commit suicide in front of a doctor and several nurses? I wanted to screem at them: JUST STRAP HER TO A BED AND SEDATE HER, FOR GOD'S SAKE!

I loved the look on Audrey's face when Jack tried to jump start Brit-boy's heart. And I fully expected Tony to drag the Beave into Terror Mom's cell and start torturing him in front of her.

Does anyone know when Ford is coming out with the special Jack Bauer Edition featuring pull out weapons containers?

That's exactly what I was thinking during that scene!

I have to say, these guys at CTU celebrate way too early. OK, it's been 1/2 second since we THINK we've reversed the meltdown, let's all just stop and congratulate ourselves. I'm waiting for the Star Wars scene where Edgar advances thru a cheering crowd to get a Presidential Medal of Honor...

Anyway, this was a pretty good episode, and I have to say I'm enjoying this season much more than last.

Did anyone else get the feeling that Jack's girlfriend's feelings shifted back to her husband during the torture scene?

John Mace
03-01-2005, 12:08 AM
I got the feeling that Audrey was very uncomfortable with the idea of Jack torturing him. I didn't get the feeling that she wanted to get back together with him, though.

Of course, after what she saw, she might not be too thrilled with hooking up with Jack again, either. I think that's what the writers want us to think.

Yep -- I mentioned earlier that I noticed what appeared to be a tender moment or two between them in the car. Just the looks between them -- but it seemed like maybe Audrey was reconsidering (especially after seeing Jack in Ruthless/Torture/Badass Mode).

I'm amazed that Driscoll's daughter bled to death that quickly with all of those medical people around? Did she sever some important artery? Not that I want to try, but I think it's got to be hard to slash your wrists and die within 2-3 minutes.

And it didn't even look like the medical personnel were even trying to save her. It was more like "Well, she's dead. That's bad."

When Jack and Curtis found the bad guy in the steno pool, why did he have to call Driscoll to get her to send in help? I thought they had like 95 zillion tactical teams waiting outside chomping at the bit. The minute the shit hits the fan they should have all rushed in and flooded the place.... instead, Jack has to wander around by his lonesome. And how the hell did the CTU agent get killed (the one that the baddie got the uniform from)? Was he all alone? I thought these guys used the buddy system.

Comic Book Guy: Turn to channel 11
Black Bauer: Dammit, we don't have time for the Simpson's.

I agree Curtis (aka Black Bauer) kicked ass. The terror guys in that building aint gettin no virgins.

Soon as the torture happened I said "Say bye-bye to girlfriend Jack."

Sara needs lessons in pissed-off employee 101. She was tortured less that 90 minutes ago and yet at this rate she's going to win Employee of the Month.

Back to the Universal remote of Doom. Keyboard lock?!!! Come the fuck on, you've been planning this shit for years, surely an engineer could have thought up something better, like I don't know, a freakin password.

What's this daughter thing of which you guys speak, must be similar to that Chloe/baby thing everyone was hallucinating a season ago. Another example of the writers outsmrting themselves. I was thinking escape valve for Marianne when that didn't pan out I figured it would end lame.

So you're telling me that the "clinic" at freakin' CTU headquarters--torture and interrogation central--can't do a better job of controlling and keeping watch over a hostile or uncooperative person than that? She didn't show all that much emotion when she found out about Maya either.

I was expecting something like:

And yes, Sarah should be seriously more pissed off. You'd think she got tortured by the boss every day. "I just put in an 8 1/2 hour shift. Got tortured, zapped, yelled at, accused of treason. Think I'll put in some overtime before I leave. La la la la la la la. Whistle while you work..."

Since no one else is discussing the preview for next week:

(all my spoiler tag contains is info from the preview and my speculation, I have no other knowledge, so it's safe to view if you watched the preview.)

What the HELL was that giant thing Jack found??!?!?! And now we find out why Maya died, so Tony can be back as head of CTU (only the interim head, but still, quite a step up from being imprisoned for treason.) Hmmm...maybe Jack planned this all along. We know he hated Driscol, so he somehow got Maya to kill herself, knowing that she would do so after he got Tony back. :p

Anyways, back to that giant freakin machine. For some reason, without any justification, I'm thinking huge EMP machine. Take down all the electronics in half of LA, including LAX, perhaps? Not as big as 100 nuclear meltdowns, but maybe it is a threat, like
"we have 100 more of these EMP devices in major cities. The economy will collapse, there will be panic, unless you praise Allah."
I don't know, just a guess. Although whatever it is, it has Jack screaming like Hell. Maybe a giant Tesla coil? Swet! it will be like Command and Conquer: Red Alert!

I think Audrey is definitely reconsidering, having seen Jack's full badass side, probably something she's never had the opportunity to see. Paul was stupid anyway for not answering.

Another hour, a few more CTU strike team / security team deaths. Next season (if any) we should keep count.

President still flying, still no mention of where he's coming from or going to. I guess at this point they probably are just staying up there to remain safe, as someone said a few weeks ago. But it would be nice if they at least made some mention of that, or said something about being able to land now that the meltdowns are stopped. I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by it.

Go Black Bauer. Just like Jack, thoroughly tortured and a few minutes later kicking ass.

Even though it was totally unbelieveable, I was still at the edge of my seat when they were down to the last second with the meltdowns. The story might be bad, but they tell it really well.

I'm starting to think that maybe the Prez just likes Air Force One so much that he decided to have the Oval Office redecorated to look like the interior of the plane -- complete with window ports. He's really in the White House.

(And the interns are now required to dress like stewardesses) :D

Even though it was totally unbelieveable, I was still at the edge of my seat when they were down to the last second with the meltdowns. The story might be bad, but they tell it really well.

I was the total opposite. I felt the whole saving the reactors scene was anti-climactic. Maybe it is because Edgar is so invincible at this point, I just knew he was going to save the day once again.

On another note, Audrey's husband obviously missed the "things never to say to Jack" memo.

(sneer) "You're bluffing."
ZZZZAAAAAPPPPPPP!

Oh sure, Paul was stupid. But Jack did himself no favors either:

Jack: Tell me about the house at 245 Madeup Rd!
Paul: I have no idea. My lawyers handle to details of corporate mergers.
Jack: I don't believe you!!! *ZZZZAAAAPPPP*
Paul: It's true! I can't be expected to remember every piece of property in a multi-million dollor corporate takeover deal!!
Jack: *sticking fingers in ears* I can't heaaaaaaar you. Lalalalalalal.

No wonder Audrey's gonna leave him.

True dat what Trion said. Jack definitely has just a small amount of baggage. I think most women would be freaked out to see thier ex being tortured. That being said, you would hope that she would come to understand why Jack has to be so forceful in such situations. I think trusting someone he loved once got him in some trouble....

Nice to know a suicidal schizoid can get hold of sharp instruments anytime she wants. The actress playing Erin Driscoll (who's second career film is listed here, btw (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077728/) - nothing like a little soft-core porn to kick off the career!) should be racked up by Torture Guy for lack of emotional range.

Maybe Edgar and Erin, bonded by the grief of their respective losses, will hook up in the broom closet at the end of next week's episode, making for arguably the most disgusting moment in '24' history.

The previews totally confused me, and I guess thats the point - I'm dyin to know what happens next week.

And while I remain convinced Audrey is somehow a baddie in this, my bad guy radar is really perking up now w Tony. Something happened in prison or since he got out - he's gonna turn here pretty quick, I can feel it.

2. Looks like the 23-hour suicide watch isn't the success they'd hoped for.

Well why would the infirmary for a super-secure anti-terrist center have LOCKS on the door?

You know those CTU doctors were all like "shit..I should be disecting terrorists living brains and mixing truth serums, not dealing with this crap."

More lines left out of the show:
Terrorist Henchman "I don't have access to the floor!!"
Curtis [Cracks him on the head knocking him flat] "Now you do motherfucker!!"

Hey, It's That Guy!

What I really realized last night is how cheaply 24 is made. There's one set of costumes for the whole season (except that SecDef and Daughter changed into prison clothes at one point). The CTU set is dismal, with no lighting to speak of. The phone ring has been the same for four seasons now, so they haven't changed telephone equipment. They rented an empty floor of a generic office building for the Curtis Escapes scenes and another floor or part of a floor with cubicles for the Finding Marwan scenes. I think a lot of the acting is bad because the producers skim the bottom for cheap talent. Sometimes they luck out, but mostly the acting is pretty much Meh! (Exceptions: Devane & Aghdashloo this season.) And then we have various scenes of Jack driving around and yelling. Oh, yeah. . . and the torture. Come on now, even the torture was cheap last night! A stupid hotel lamp cord???

SecDef Daughter and Estranged Hubby will definitely bond over the torture business. (She did scowl at Jack, didn't she?)

And the shutting down of the runaway reactors was definitely underwhelming.

So, they better ratchet up the excitement a bit or this season might just be called 12. (But I still like it!)

It is indeed a giant EMP device...and the ones setting it off are the heads of the defense corporation from whom the nuclear override was stolen.

So you're telling me that the "clinic" at freakin' CTU headquarters--torture and interrogation central--can't do a better job of controlling and keeping watch over a hostile or uncooperative person than that? Like they wouldn't have straitjackets and padded restraints and several burly "orderlies" and all kinds of really heavy sedatives at a place like that. It's almost like the clinic at CTU doesn't know what CTU actually does. Maybe they think they're working for Cybernetic Technology Underwriters.

"Why is everyone so stressed out?"
"Hey, come down to the clinic. How busy can you possibly be?"
"Security? Restraints? We hand out aspirin here!"

Sara needs lessons in pissed-off employee 101. She was tortured less that 90 minutes ago and yet at this rate she's going to win Employee of the Month. Not likely. "And the Starbucks Gift Certificate and special parking space goes to...Edgar!"
"What? I was tortured! Don't I at least get the sympathy vote?"
"Sorry, but while you were pleading your innocence, Edgar stopped over 100 meltdowns and flushed out the mole, all while listening to his mother's death rattle over the phone. Better luck next month!"

Why do they even have a clinic with that many nurses or medics or whatever? Is it part of the Employee Torture Eventuality benefits plan?

I mean how many patients would they get per day, anyways?

I love it! I think some of us should team up and take over the dialog writing for the show. ;)

But it would be nice if they at least made some mention of that, or said something about being able to land now that the meltdowns are stopped. I'm glad I'm not the only one bothered by it.

I'm still convinced that we're going to find out the Prez was just bored that day, and except for his video conferences with the Audrey's dad, he's just flying the friendly skies, rubbing his hands together with C. Montgomery Burnsian glee at all the chaos he's created. "Made you look!"

Or not.

My TiVo failed to record last night's episode due to some kind of problem with the satellite signal. Could anyone give me a good summary or point me toward one so I'm not lost next week?
