Jack was in the building with how many strike team guys, and he basically takes down the whole place by himself?

The stabbing scene was classic Bauer.

Anyone know where Black Bauer went to?

Well, you just had to know that when Jack asked about the FBI agent that it was not good news for the agent.

Who's Aziz? (sp?)

The dead guy with the backup hard drive whose apartment they are searching... have we seen him before? Sounds like he was Anderson's roommate? Do we know who he was? or just some random henchman?

RancidYakButterTeaParty
04-04-2005, 08:33 PM
I thought this too, I have no idea who this Aziz is.

Anyone want to take a shot at predicting the target that will "have the whole world looking" for Anderson?

Please don't tell me anything in NYC!

Innnnnnnnnnnnteresting. Regarding next week's episode (possible mild spoiler warning).

I looked at...

Mke Novick! (Jude Ciccolella)

Considering that Marwan previously said, "The president is on a tight schedule" -- probably the president.

Or was that a rhetorical question? ;)

So, PilotBoy actually thinks he's going to get away with whatever he's going to do.

This is the one thing that always gets me when it comes to traitors (real or imaginary). If I represent a foreign power wanting to bring down another country and I get a citizen from that country to help me, he's going to be the first person I kill once I get what I want. I'll make any deal he wants, but I'll be damned if I'm gonna keep it.

Chloe, Queen of Tact. :D

Nice cover for Edgar, though.

What kind of sucky software are they using where "column major" format will bring the system crashing down?

Mr. Blue Sky

Okay, who else thought Jack was going to shoot the harddrive?

Monstre

Heh heh -- little fake FBI agent didn't pick a good hiding spot.
Sure, get behind that drywall. We'll see how well that stops Jack's bullets...

I presume Anderson's planning to eject out of the fighter and let it crash. But I agree, Mr. Blue Sky -- I don't think Marwan has any intention of sending him on his merry way with his money and new identity.

Did anyone else think Jack was going to get this guy to turn around? I sure did. I'm sorta glad they didn't take the obvious way out.

The President's safety is still up in the air, so I think we can assume he will probably survive.

This episode seemed to move very quickly, in my opinion. Were there more commercial breaks than usual?

I thought that was funny.

Jack Bauer: Hardwired to always shout (and get an answer) when someone doesn't tell him what he wants quickly enough...

Still, I'm glad he's on our side! I'm pretty sure he could take Rambo apart and then win a marathon....

The exchange between Bauer and the mercenary/terrorist/pilot reminded me of the cold war movie "Fail-Safe," when the military leaders brought in the errant pilot's wife. Of course,

It didn't work in the sixties, either.

I'm really getting tired of Maruan constantly getting away. Just capture him already and move on to the next guy up the chain of command.

This was billed as "The Most Shocking Episode Ever?" Please. It was obvious they were going for Air Force One in the last episode. What would have been shocking is if they hadn't been going for Air Force One at all.

Maybe bomb Canada or something...

So Jack mentions the FBI agent's name. Then she shows up (with no backup) and gets killed by HotTerrorist, and then Jack calls her cell phone at the right time, and she finds the agent's ID, and she can pass herself off as an FBI agent instantly, and ...

She was pretty lucky for a while there.

I actually enjoy this aspect of "24". Makes for quite a chuckle.

Note to FBI: never send a single agent to a possible terrorist site. How lame was that?

Also, note that the hit to AF1 was "inderect". I assume that means it wasn't obliterated.

Best line of the show: when Tony asks Michelle when she was going to tell him about her new love interest.. "Never, because it's none of your business." Right on!!

I was a bit surprised that the Prez would talk gloom and doom to the VP right in front of his son. Go into the Presidential Bathroom at least..!!

Isn't it amazing how the head honcho terrorist always manages to escape even though everyone else in the buliding is killed or captured. I think CTU needs to rethink their definition of "perimeter".

Great Episode as ususal with a few nitpicks. Let's stat with:

I have seen 1,253,000 cop movies/shows. Whenever a door is unlocked and there are signs of ransackedness; proper procedure is to secure the residence by making sure know one is waiting to pop you. I guess they don't teach that in FBI School.

speaking of:

Fake/FBI badass. No way does she fire a gun and Jack an CTU redshirt not smell the amonia like smell from the shots ten minutes later. Still I kind of liked said badass, she should have gotten way more airtime. Oh and while we're on the subject, what the freakin hell did she do with the body, where was the blood?

Chloe is a human being OMG!!! Let's see there is a hunt for a bad guy going on. Chloe and Edgar are shifting through alll kinds of data looking for correlation with terrorist plots. Meanwhile OSHA calls to say they can't get Mom's body out. HELLO! Totally gratuitous, we remember she died, no need to be so heavy handed.

You know, whenever someone touches my wife shoulderfrom now on, I'm offing the bastard :dubious:

And lastly:

I only include the following because, well, it freaking bothers me. Neither the Stealth Bomber nor the Fighter are invisble to radar. What they are are much reduced to radar, the angles and material combine to absorb and bounce radar, so that the resulting signature doesn't look anythng like the size or shape of a plane. The effect is about the same, but still it bothers me when someone says invisible.

Also, the stealth fighter was using it's own radar in order to find AF1. Any of the escort fighters would have been able to detect the radar signal coming from the stealth fighter, home in on it, and take care of the problem.

Well, to her credit, she did enter with gun drawn. Problem is, she only secured everything to the left of the doorway (relative to her POV). She didn't bother to point the gun the other way. Maybe she only made it through the first half of that particular FBI training course. ;)

Curits: Let's see... Things have been pretty busy this last hour, what with Jack leading the attack on Marwan's hideout and all. But I have this nagging feeling I'm forgetting something I was supposed to do. Hmmm.... Was it torture a prisoner? Nope... Torture an employee? Nope... Sleep with another mole? Sounds fun, but it can wait... Oh, I remember! Honor my promise to protect Behrooz! Ah well. Screw that, I'm going on coffee break. The B'ver is on his own.

As soon as the President (it still kills me that he used to be on that show where Bobcat Goldwaith [sp] did the voice of the puppet) started having the "heart to heart" with his son, I knew they were both toast.

I wish the Hot Fake FBI Agent had gotten more screen time, but it was kinda cool that Jack shot her through the drywall column.

And I thought they did a nice job with the shocked silence from Jack, Chloe et al at the end of the episode when they found out that Air Force One had been hit (indirectly, which I assume means that one of the fighter planes took a hit and some shrapnel hit the 747).

And once again, Jack follows the command I yell from the couch. When the fake FBI agent hid behind the drywall, I said "Shoot her through the wall!" Jack obliged. I didn't realize I had so much power.

I realize we're talking about 24 here (AKA "Plot Contrivance Playhouse") but doesn't Air Force One have countermeasures out the wazoo? Flares? ECM? Disbelief has always been flying high with this show, but a single missile (fired from a missile armed F117 no less) got through? I mean, AF1 was on full alert, they knew they were going to be attacked, the escort fighters were covering... It seems like SOMEBODY should have TRIED to jam or spoof one lone missile!

Okay, I don't know the first thing about this but wouldn't it have made much more sense for the Prez and son to, oh I don't know, maybe put on a parachute or something? Instead of standing around gaping at each other in disbelief? And where was all the Prez's staff? You'd think there would have been total chaos with folks running around trying to protect the man in any way they possibly could.

The "shooting the fake FBI agent through the drywall" trick was pretty nifty though. Terrorists really ought to consider passing around Jack's photo with the warning: If you see this man anywhere near you, kiss your ass goodbye."

I was also a little surprised they didn't at least SEE the missle and attempt some evasive action. Just because the missile was fired from an "invisible" plane doesn't mean the missile is invisible. I would have expected a bunch of alarms going off, AF1 banking sharply and the Prez & Son being thrown around the cabin, at the least.

But I really don't know anything about such things, and figured that if the missile really only took the 10 seconds or so to cover the distance, they didn't really have time to detect and react. The show really is more fun when you don't realize when things are wrong.

For those who saw the preview next week, I think we may be asked to suspend disbelief in a major way soon. I hope I'm wrong.
You mean unlike other weeks?

I enjoy the show now because I have completely dismissed the show from reality. I sleep better at night.

Unlike Jack Bauer.

Wouldn't help. There's no way to jump out of a pressurized 747.

Of course, this isn't just any 747, this is Air Force One. You think they'd have an escape pod or something.

Oh, and add me to the list of people who's wondering why nobody considered chaff, flares, radar jamming, stuff like that.

Im in my hotel room this weekend, reading the TV Guide and its little write-up on Chloe and it claims her primary gig is in comedy. I guess I'd believe it if I saw it but its hard for me to picture her in a role where she's supposed to be funny w/o being unbelievably freaking annoying.

If CTU would just bring in Rick O'Connell and Ardeth Bey they'd find and subdue Marwhan immediately - jeez, isn't anyone thinking over there?

Not in defense of Chloe, but Mary Lynn Rajskub is great in Kelsy Grammer's sketch show, and the did the Downer Channel a few years ago. I consider the hatred for her that seems to be prevalent on the internet as a sign of her being a good actress- she convinced them.

The "shooting the fake FBI agent through the drywall" trick was pretty nifty though. Terrorists really ought to consider passing around Jack's photo with the warning: If you see this man anywhere near you, kiss your ass goodbye."

They would, but he never leaves any alive to tell the tale...

Yep -- cute terrorist chick set a bomb on the plane, and then blew open the door with a smaller explosive, which of course immediately depressurized the plane. But she wasn't exactly concerned with the survival of the rest of the people on the plane. In fact, she was shooting for the exact opposite. ;)

That would probably be a bit drastic of an action for Prez and Son to try to take...

The terrorist blew out the door and was sucked out of the plane. Once clear of the plane, she opened her chute.

She's in "That Sketch Show" and she's been pretty funny in it. My wife and I were discussing how different she looks in both mannerisms and facial expressions in the disparate shows. She's apparently a good actress.

Now wait a minute.
Forgive me, but how can you have a cute terrorist chick?

Yep, she was an American terror chick (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000477/).

More of a mercenary, than a chick with a "cause". Cute lesbian mercenary plane-blowing-up chick...

Or as we frequently refer to her, the "frequently naked lesbian assassin". Ahh, Mia Kirshner, how I love thee.

Anyhow, no one has mentioned the greatest line from this episode.
"I means that you'll have to have the funeral without the body. (pause) Of your mother."

As for the target being AF1, on the one hand I was disappointed that it wasn't something else, just because there had been so many clues to it being AF1. On the other hand, what other show has the balls to shoot down AF1?

I saw someone suggest on another board that this season might be related to season two's failed plot to start a war with some unnnamed Middle Eastern countries by setting off a nuke in LA. Max, the main bad guy from season two, mentioned at the end that they would have to try another method. Maybe this is it?

If the guy really wants the nuclear codes, could they shoot at anyone?
Israel? Saudi Arabia to piss the region of more than it is now?

quixotic78 -- Yes, that was the same girl. Mandy. She blew up the plane in season 1, then was the handshake girl in season 2.

I wonder if she'll ever be back in the 24 world...

Did they ever go back to the old man (the actor who played Mr. Raines on The Pretender) who surprised Curtis at the office building and killed Marianne in an earlier episode? I got the feeling he was supposed to be a major villain, perhaps relating to the shadowy conspiracies from earlier seasons, but I don't think they followed up on him since Jack rescued Curtis.

I thought he turned out to be a security guy for McClennan Forrester and got killed by Curtis? Or am I conflating two separate plot points?

I don't think he was with McClennan Forster, but I think you're right -- he was a security guy at the office that Curtis took Marianne to, and I think the recently-escaped Curtis got him (when he was wandering loose in those locked-off floors).

What is starting to bother me more and more is that we have Jack Bauer out in the field, pretty much solo besides a few dispensable "back-up" guys.

Meanwhile, back at CTU, Tony and Curtis are just shuffling papers and playing spider solitaire. Let's get all three of them in the field for a major ass kicking!

I didn't really like this President. And the "well, son, my highly paid gifted speech writers are doing a horrible job - but you, who can barely string a five words together at a time. You write my speech" did not work for me. Not at all. So, I was more or less ok with seeing it fall.

But I'd still like a reason for the terrorists. Again, "America sucks" is just not enough. Why does it suck? What, specifically, did it do? What do you want in the future? I know this about most other terrorist groups - some of them have flimsy, stupid answers to those questions, but answers nonetheless.

Usually going to their country and causing women to show their ankles and/or supporting the Israelis in their efforts to stay alive.

There were logical holes, as always, but I still thought this one got the show out of the doldrums it'd been in for the last couple of weeks. AF1 being attacked wasn't a surprise, but at least it was dramatic.
