I borrowed this book from my boyfriend long about 1991, and lately I've been thinking of elements of it, but for the life of me can't dredge up much detail, never mind the title.

It's a contemporary fantasy novel, and might or might not be part of a series. It involves a (Southern?) family with special powers. One brother can predict the day's events by the first song he hears on the radio in the morning, and at one point the song is "All Along the Watchtower."

There's a character who IIRC is a caretaker or handyman or something - he's kind of skeezy and disreputable, but also sexually potent. Toward the end of the book, I believe he is revealed to be a kind of Green Man, nature god sort of thing. I think he's also a sort of mentor to the boy who is the narrator or a main character.

Anyone got anything for me? I would really appreciate it, as it is driving me crazy!

I'm truly sorry, catnoe.

And if the Teeming Millions can't help us, who can?

Will I be reduced to coming through Amazon's "browse by category?" I fear I will.

If I do, and have success, I'll let you know, though.

Is it Rio by Duran Duran?

Is it Robert Newman's The Fountain at the Centre of the World?

I seem to vaguely remember the lyrics of that Hendrix song blasting out in it, at one point... (It was brung up and quoted by my teacher during an E.Lit. lecture, sorry for not being specific)

Amazon's page (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/1859845738/qid=1120074931/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-5856131-0450217?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) on that book seems to indicate absolutely no supernatural or extraordinary powers, instead a political piece on globalization.

I'm interested in the fantasy book the OP is thinking of, though.

It's definitely not The Fountain at the Centre of the World.

Some more bits & pieces:

It had a somewhat gothic feel to me. As I tried to pin down some memories, it reminded me of the feel of Weaveworld a bit, probably because it was unconventional and kind of messed with my mind.

More on the Green Man. I seem to recall the character was killed, and then someone brought him back to life by constructing his image from various flora/fruits.

I am actually going through Amazon looking for it. I fear it may be classified as either fantasy or horror, complicating matters.

This is pretty unlikely but could it be Little Big (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060937939/qid=1120080469/sr=8-1/ref=pd_csp_1/102-3795667-6644149?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) By John Crowley?

I doubt it but that's all I got right now.

Is it Rio by Duran Duran?*snerk*

I missed that earlier. If only it were that easy!

Larry , that doesn't sound like it, but it does sound like an interesting book, thanks!
