Sadly, the comics world lost one of the really good ones on May 27 with the death of Alex Toth (http://tothfans.dynu.com/). He was probably better known for his animation work with Hanna-Barbera, which included Space Ghost (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Space_Ghost) and Jonny Quest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jonny_Quest). However, that came after his time in comics, which included stints at Marvel and DC as well as EC, where his contributions included the excellent "F-86 Sabre Jet!" (http://fourrealities.blogspot.com/2005/04/ec-f-86-sabre-jet-toth.html) and "Thunder Jet!" (http://www.samuelsdesign.com/comics/pages/super-war/frontlinecombat8.htm) in different issues of Frontline Combat. Toth had the reputation of being an "artist's artist," AIUI.

Coincidentally, Toth died two days before Jack Kamen (http://www.sci.fi/~karielk/kamefact.htm)'s 80th birthday.

I read that he died at his drawing table. It is sad, but when a person dies doing what they love...well, we should all be so lucky.

Scott Tipton over at Comics 101 (http://www.comics101.com/?page=C101) has a nice chronological review of Toth's work.

A candle smiley would be nice.

Toth was one of the greats.

Maybe I missed it but I can't believe Adult Swim wouldn't have done a 'bumper' tribute to him. Space Ghost is what started all of AS, plus he's also the original designer of Sealab 2020...

Figured. Blame it on the TiVo FF button...
