a.k.a., Let the Madness Begin, Part VII

With tonight's scheduled airing of the finale of 24, season 7, I hereby announce that 24 Club membership is open to all who wish to partake in the marathon viewing of season 7 of 24 this Saturday, May 23, 2009.

The marathon rules are simple: watch all 24 episodes of "Day 7," within 24 hours (truth is, when you leave out the commercials, it runs about 18 hours or so). So provision up, get settled in, and join the club.

Anyone for whom the marathon will be the first time they have seen season 7 qualifies for Gold Member status. Anyone who has been watching along all season and will be doing the marathon for the adventure of it will receive full Standard Member (formerly "honorary member") status.

Making it even easier to participate is the fact that Fox is scheduled to release the season 7 DVD set tomorrow.

Yes, this will be my 7th marathon

I'd do it, but I'm heading out of town. All of them are queued up on my TiVo for a future date.

Good luck, and god speed. If you don't do it, millions will die!

For those who haven't saved every episode on their DVR, how do your propose someone sit down to watch this marathon?Making it even easier to participate is the fact that Fox is scheduled to release the season 7 DVD set tomorrow.Never mind....

But is this the first time a season of a TV series was released on a DVD the day after the season finale aired?

I won't watch the whole thing this weekend, but thanks to you, I will now be taping it. We got through the first third or so of the season and got behind about five or six hours just from being too busy. Then, either through a PVR glitch or a wrong button press, my wife inadvertently deleted what we had taped. And we kind of gave up on the season after we lost all those hours. We haven't seen any since then, despite having several folks tell me that this is the best season of the show ever.

I'm not sure how it never occurred to me that there would be a marathon this weekend -- after all, the very first marathon after Season 1 is how we got hooked on the show to begin with!

I think it may be, but I can't say with authority. I know that 24: Redemption was released at almost the same time it aired. That remains the only 2 hours of 24 I have ever watched in real-world real-time.

Ah, the good old days. I still remember getting home from work that Thursday night, going straight to bed, getting up at 12 and putting in the first tape, then going back to bed at 4:30 or whenever we finished the first tape because we were falling asleep watching it, then getting up at 6 to take another stab at "real time" and making it through the next 3 tapes just fine. I knew even then that "real time" would not be a condition of future marathons. :)

The specific date of the marathon can be fudged; if you find time later to make it happen, let me know, and I'll make sure the membership department gets your man-purse, this year's sew-on patch and pen-and-pencil set out to you in a timely manner.

It just dawned on me from something that Asmovian said that I may have inadvertently implied that Fox or some other network is airing a 24 marathon this Saturday.

Such implication was not my intent. As with all previous seasons, 24 Club marathons are primarily intended for those who have recorded all 24 episodes themselves or, new this season, who purchase the DVD between Tuesday and Saturday. Amusingly, I plan to fall into both categories.

Clearly, this is a club for crazy people...

Sorry Knead - can't do it this year either. I have to go have 33 cars race around me in circles at 200mph this weekend, and a house to buy. And I haven't taped. Or watched seasons 3-6. (Or did I see S3? Can't remember - it all seems to run together...)

Don't worry about it Munch. You'll catch up after you get that house bought. Because nothing gives you lots of free time like buyinasd;lkj dsjg. .....

Wow, I almost got through that with a straight face.

Seriously, catch up when you can. You'll always be the Big Cheese of the 24 Club.

Well, just to wrap up this 24 Club thread, let me say the following on 24 season 7:

Star Trek shout-outs galore (Phlox! Bob Justman! Rick Berman!), Janeane Garafolo and Mary Lynn Rajskub together again, an entire season without a (real) crazy-ass (real) blonde chick, a first gentleman every bit as crazy in his own way as Martha Logan, a first daughter with aspirations of being the next Sherry Palmer, RIP Bill Buchanan, and Jon Voight joins James Cromwell in IsHeReallyDeadistan. Jack adds a fatal prion variant infection (WTFever that is) to his heart condition and, what was it ... oh yeah, homocidal psychopathic tendencies, but hey, we get to see Jack shooting up again, so what's not to love? And then, just when you think the season can't get any better, Kim ... running!

Whew.

Oh, yeah. I think I remember hearing that in there now.

Needless to say, I've got a lot of TWoP (http://www.televisionwithoutpity.com/show/24/) to catch up on. :)
