View Full Version : Would you buy a nice solid red tie?

I've always loved the solid red tie against a pinstripe suit. Do you think this look is outdated? Grey suit, white shirt, red tie is a classic look. I think it also works with a dark blue suit and white shirt.

I'd only buy one for my solid red railroad.

Yes, I have one, but I don't wear it very often. I prefer either a small pattern or a pretty bold stripe, depending on my shirt and coat.

I did buy one, and it was for my pinstripe suit. It's as timeless as a lady's black cocktail dress.

I like the red tie, white shirt, blue suit look.

But that may be because in real life, I am Clark Kent.

Well, sure. Though I think burgundy is more flattering to my complexion.

No thanks, got one. Saving it for my Spirit (http://www.willeisner.com/will_eisner_week_website/2009/02/17/TheSpirit.jpg) impression.

How much are you selling it for?

I have a narrow leather red tie that (I think) looks great. However I have now not worn any tie for as long as I can remember, 10 years at least.

The OP works with the pinstripe suit. If the suit's solid navy, I'd wear a shirt with some pattern.

I have enough neckties that I can usually pick out exactly the one I like for a particular shirt and occasion. But a simple solid red tie is a perfectly acceptable tie for any occasion, and is never the wrong choice.

I'd have to see it. If it's a nice cut and made out of a nice material then absolutely. Otherwise it could easily look really cheap and tacky. My red tie has a very subtle pattern on it so I suppose it would look just as nice if it were solid red. But for criminey's sake I hope you're not wearing a tie this time of year! That would be cruel and unusual punishment.

I'd buy one and if you like it, you should buy it too.

Remember if you buy something because everyone else thinks it's cool, it isn't. But if you buy something, no matter how cool it isn't, because YOU like it, then it becomes cool.

I haven't put on a suit or tie in a couple of years, but yeah--I like solid red ties, and ties of any solid color that goes all right with the shirt and jacket.
