Don Draper

Trying to put together a playlist of 'bad weather' songs. Anything song about rotten, crummy, miserable weather. Mostly rain & storms, but snow, hail, twisters, etc. qualify as well.

So far, possible imclusions are:
Stormy Weather - Billie Holliday version
Ball & Chain - Janis Joplin ("Sittin' by my window, lookin' at the rain")
Rain - the Beatles
Like the Weather - 10,000 Maniacs
Ride Captain Ride - Blues Image
Riding the Storm Out - REO Speedwagon

Any suggestions?

Me and Bobby McGee - Janis Joplin. And the 3000 other people who have sang it I guess. Well actually it's Kris Kristofferson but I'm going to pretend it's JJ anyway.

"Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained," and later on in the song, "Windshield wipers slapping time, I was holding Bobby's hand in mine,"

Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy Lordy.

"Bobby thumbed a diesel down just before it rained,"

:smack:

I've spent the last 20 years or so (since I first heard the song) wondering what the hell a "diesel dam" was!

Awww. I just did a play list about bad weather, but from the songs listed in the OP, I don't think he'd like any of them. 'sides CCR ("who'll stop the rain?") and John Mellencamp ("rain on the scarecrow"), they're all indie songs, not oldies.

Rush - "Jacob's Ladder (http://www.lyricstime.com/rush-jacob-s-ladder-lyrics.html)"

The lyrics are sparse because the piece was originally intended to be an instrumental that musically described a thunderstorm building, climaxing, and then breaking (and it does it remarkably well, I think). The lyrics were added as an afterthought to clarify things for the hoi polloi.

Ok, this song isn't exactly about stormy weather...I mean, it is more used as a metaphore.

But it is named 'Quiet Storm' and there is the sound of a thunderstorm throughout the song, and furthermore, it is one of my all time favorite hip hop songs. Mobb Deep's Quiet Storm (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bvCp-N-9JEw&feature=related)

Snow (Jesse Winchester) -- great song by a Southerner who fled to Canada to beat the draft.

It's Cold Outside (The Choir): "And now it's cold outside/And the rain is pouring down..." Garage classic.

The Dark and the Rolling Sea (Al Stewart)

Early Morning Rain (Gordon Lightfoot)

There are, or course, a number of holiday-themed songs about snow, such as "Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!".
