I wrote this (http://soundcloud.com/ellestad/orca) last Friday in my studio.

It was an exercise in speed production with my studio partner. Quite possibly the weirdest thing I've ever done. But hey, it's funky electro-pop about being my bartender and guitarist getting eaten by an orca.

5 hrs start to finish, plus an hour mixing the next day with fresh ears.

There's Fred Neil, folkie hero (http://www.fredneil.com/searching-for-the-dolphins-the-mysterious-life-of-fred-neil/) who disappeared down South & lived on royalties from "Everybody's Talking" and:

.......perhaps his most powerful and autobiographical song, ‘The Dolphins.’ ‘This old world may never change the way it’s been/And all the ways of war can’t change it back again/I’ve been searchin’for the dolphins in the sea/And sometimes I wonder, do you ever think of me.’

Fred Neil really did go searching for the dolphins in the sea. He retreated to Coconut Grove, Florida and dedicated the rest of his life to dolphin research and preservation. He helped to found the Dolphin Project, an organization dedicated to preventing the capture and exploitation of dolphins worldwide. His interest in dolphins had been there all along, as some years earlier, he had even befriended Cathy, the central character on the television series, ‘Flipper.’

Debussy - "Poissons d'Or" ("Goldfish") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlKGEU0zLSE&feature=related

Schubert's "Trout" quintet is named that because one movement uses the melody from his song, "The Trout" ("Die Forelle"), performed by the great Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau (with subtitles) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NF9DrUXowBo

related: his "Die Fischerreise" ("The Fisherman") http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WYzPqx63LKs

The fisherman is not plagued
by cares, grief or sorrow.
In the early morning he casts off
his boat with a light heart.

Round about, peace still lies
over forest, meadow and stream,
with his song the fisherman
bids the golden sun awake.

He sings at his work
from a full, vigorous heart.
His work gives him strength,
his strength exhilarates him.

Soon a bright multitude
will resound in the depths,
and splash
through the watery heavens.

But whoever wishes to set a net
needs good, clear eyes,
must be as cheerful as the waves,
and as free as the tide.

There, on the bridge, the shepherdess
is fishing. Cunning wench,
leave off your tricks!
You won't deceive this fish!

Go into the Water

Actually, the whole album, Dethwater isn't just about sealife, it's music specifically for fish and isn't really meant for humans at all. In fact, many fans who listened to it heard the lyrics to the song Go Into The Water and drowned. cite (http://dethklok.wikia.com/wiki/Dethwater)

Here's a clip of the band playing the song live in the Gulf of Danzig in 2006 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYz6qMbWpAw). Note that the stage and speakers face into the ocean, so the fish can hear it better.
