I finally saw the 1971 film version of Euripides play. While Katherine Hepburn does a fine job as Hecuba, I think Vanessa Redgrave and Brain Blessed steal the show. Irene papas is a touch disappointing. Anyone a fan? Thoughts? I think it does resonate in this era of war (and did so as well at the time of production). Vanessa Redgrave excels as Andromache in showing a rather shell shocked woman who has lost nearly every reference point.

I wonder why Hecuba and Andromache have never been adapted for the screen.

I have it in my Netflix queue and haven't watched it yet. I didn't realize Brian Blessed was in it. He's one of my favorites!

It's been a very long time since I've seen it, but I remember crying almost straight through it.

Has anyone seen Iphiginia?
