Man, this is not even close to a good likeness.

Some residents have claimed the statue is actually scary at night. I think it's just awful.

Celoron Mayor Scott Schrecengost told the Jamestown Post-Journal that it would cost a lot of money between $8,000 and $10,000 to have the original artist recast the statue, which was unveiled in 2009.
Ummm, why pay the original artist to fix it? If the original artist wasn't competent to create a faithful likeness of Lucille Ball to begin with, I'd say it's time to go to a different artist.

I actually gasped when the image finally decided to load. (my browser took a few seconds, probably to build suspense)
The lighting is bad so that could be adding to the weirdness.
They could always put a loving cup over her head.

Yeah, the Fonzie statue is kind of scary too.

I agree with removing the Lucille Ball statue. It would be better to have nothing than that thing.

While we're at it, the Mary Tyler Moore "Mary Richards" statue (http://media1.s-nbcnews.com/j/MSNBC/Components/Photo/_new/int-tvl-110224-Mary-Tyler-Moore-Minn-115p.grid-3x2.jpg) is a pretty big fail, too.

With nothing but a picture, the Fonize statue is recognizable, I think most people would have no problem putting a name to it, even if all they saw was the face (that is, w/o the iconic leather jacket/jeans/two thumbs up). The same could probably be said for MtM.
Lucy, probably not.

Nah, it's the teeth.

Well, OK, this particular statue of Lucy clearly needs to be nuked from orbit. But a recurring theme in the examples posted here is teeth.

Classical sculpture doesn't do teeth. (https://www.google.no/search?q=roman+portraiture&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ei=zU4gVezeJ4OssAHky4OgDg&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAQ&biw=1366&bih=633) There's a reason for that.

With all due respect, you could have a statue of ANYONE dressed in jeans, a leather jacket, a pompadour, and thumbs up, and most people would think it was The Fonz. I agree that a good likeness of Henry Winkler would be a plus, but not essential.

Lucy, on the other hand, looks like an undead horror that wants me to slug down a bottle of Vitameatavegemin. Yes, teeth were a bad idea. Hell, there's a curiosity shop down the street that sells licensed ceramic images of Lucy that look more like Lucy than THAT.

If the MTM piece didn't include the hat throw I would think it was Martha Stewart.

Hm. Personally as an occasional artist I *know* when whatever I was working on looks like what it was supposed to. I have absolutely no freaking idea why he felt that that statue looked like Lucille Ball in the first place. Is he blind and working from memory or something? I would never have cast that piece looking as little like Lucille Ball as it does. I would have reworked my study model until it actually looked like her from the photograph I would have been using as a model.
