Cruel Twist of Fate: Probable Death of Football (Soccer) Star Emiliano Sala in Airplane Crash

Quote:

Emiliano Sala, the Argentinian footballer who signed for Cardiff City on Saturday, was on a private plane that disappeared near the Channel Islands on Monday evening, prompting an extensive search and rescue operation that was suspended at 5pm on Tuesday, with Guernsey police admitting that the chances of survival are “slim”...

The news that the plane had gone missing with Sala on board was greeted with a sense of despair and dismay by staff, players and supporters at Cardiff and Nantes. Sala, who joined Cardiff for a club-record £15m fee after scoring 42 goals for Nantes, had been due to train with the Welsh club for the first time on Tuesday morning.

[Because of the cold weather, if not rescued immediately chances of survival are close to none.]

If he hadn't decided to switch for more money and status, he wouldn't have been on this plane and wouldn't be dead [while these sorts of incidents happen all the time the speed of the change from good fortune to very bad fortune struck me.]

I thought I would update on the cause of the crash and thus his death. In the mass media and piloting forums there was a strong emphasis on the lack of qualifications of the pilot and how a probably illegal informal arrangement was used instead of the regulated industry. But it turns out:
Quote:

Footballer Emiliano Sala and the pilot flying the plane he was in when it crashed into the Channel were probably exposed to “potentially fatal” levels of carbon monoxide, investigators have announced.

Toxicology tests on the Cardiff City footballer found levels of carboxyhaemoglobin – formed in the blood when exposed to carbon monoxide (CO) – above the point doctors consider to be fatal.

Inspectors at the Air Accident Investigations Board (AAIB) said that as the cockpit of the Piper Malibu light aircraft was not separated from the cabin when it crashed in January, it was likely that the pilot, David Ibbotson, would also have been affected.
