Tom Terrific--Is It Seaver or Brady?

https://www.boston.com/sports/new-en...aver-trademark

Tom Brady's trying to trademark "Tom Terrific" for his brand name. My husband said, "The only Tom Terrific is Tom Seaver, who was so good after he couldn't pitch any more he pitched in the American League."

JohnT 06-04-2019 11:02 AM

Gotta tell ya, if he's trying to trademark Seaver's nickname, that's pretty shitty. Didn't anyone tell him this is a pretty bad idea?

burpo the wonder mutt 06-04-2019 11:14 AM

What a Crabby Appleton.

Your husband isn't wrong.

What the fuck, tho?

1. Who the fuck has ever called Tom Brady "Tom Terrific"?
2. Does this fucking jackass need more money? Really? What's his fucking problem?

What does this mean? A trademark registration isn't free money.

Atamasama 06-04-2019 11:38 AM

Brady was never given a proper nickname so he’s trying to grant himself one through the legal system.

If this doesn’t work I bet he’ll next try to get Megatom.

sachertorte 06-04-2019 11:49 AM

I must have heard Tom Terrific referring to Mr. Brady at some point as it sounds vaguely familiar. I live in New England though, so that's probably why.

He should be happy with GOAT.

I didn't say it was "free money".

Tell me, tho, why you think most people register trademarks. I think it's because they intend to try and make money with it.

Telemark 06-04-2019 11:55 AM

What about this guy? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tom_Terrific

Ulf the Unwashed 06-04-2019 11:58 AM

Seaver, of course.

I like the OP's husband's line.

rsat3acr 06-04-2019 01:36 PM

Tom the more talent then just about anyone but still cheated.

What Exit? 06-04-2019 01:38 PM

If this is true, Tom Brady is a complete shithead.

No kidding. I will quite readily admit he is the best QB to ever play the game. Isnít that good enough?

Blank Slate 06-04-2019 06:02 PM

Tom Terrific! The GOAT! Lol, no.

Loach 06-04-2019 10:37 PM

It will always be Seaver. And it’s particularly shitty to be pulling this after it was announced that Seaver will no longer be able to make public appearances because he has dementia.

Marine_One 06-05-2019 01:43 PM

This will be very deflating to him if he doesn't get it.

RickJay 06-05-2019 02:45 PM

I have no idea why Brady is trying to take an existing nickname from a previous sports legend.

Yeah, I don't get his angle on this. On the other hand, more than one athlete has used the same nickname before. "The Little Ball of Hate" is a fairly particular nickname that was created for Pat Verbeek and is currently used to refer to Brad Marchand. I don't think either player tried to get a trademark on it. :)

People in New England don't use Tom Terrific wrt Brady very often. Unless his people have a huge campaign planned it seems like a waste of time and something that will just alienate part of his target audience. I don't know how many Mets fans would ever cheer for him, but lots of casual fans might view this as a petty act.

Mike Mabes 06-06-2019 07:12 PM

MetsBlog says Brady doesn't like the name and wanted to trademark it so others could not use it.

Scum sucking asshole Tom Brady took a loss this time.

The U.S. Patent and Trademark office has rejected Brady’s attempt to trademark “Tom Terrific" on the basis that Mets legend Tom Seaver is still alive, and is the real Tom Terrific.

And I'm not a Mets Fan but Brady is a jerk.

Little Nemo 08-25-2019 12:51 PM

A hundred years from now, people will look back at us and laugh. "How did they not figure out Tom Brady was a robot? It was so obvious."
