How has President Trump pissed you off today?

During the campaign and even after being elected, Donald Trump has proved again and again that he's not going to change from being the same arrogant, corrupt, bullying, bigoted, misogynistic, unfiltered braggart with zero interest in wise public policy that that he's always been.

But what has he done to prove that on the day that you post here?

cochrane 01-20-2017 12:31 PM

Taken the oath of office.

k9bfriender 01-20-2017 12:34 PM

He said he'd make America great again.

What's he waiting for, Monday?

VanLandry 01-20-2017 12:37 PM

By not referring to the rain as liberal cupcake tears during his speech.

beowulff 01-20-2017 12:38 PM

By still being alive.

AtomThought 01-20-2017 12:48 PM

He ruined the traditional, mildly entertaining inauguration ceremony I would enjoyed had almost anyone else who ran won. His angry dictator-esque speech was particularly disappointing.

I have a feeling this is going to be a loooong thread.

Finding that his Swamp Thing cabinet has PBS, NPR and others in the chopping block.

https://mediamatters.org/blog/2017/0...c-media/215060

Quote:

While many think only of National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) when they think of public media, it actually consists of “a system of independently owned and operated local public radio and television stations” that air a combination of commercial-free original programming and programming licensed from other stations through organizations like NPR and PBS. This programming includes broadcasts on local issues, children’s education, the arts, and public affairs.

The stations derive funding from multiple sources, but that funding is often contingent on the federal grants CPB provides to more than 1,041 radio stations and 365 television stations.

The George W. Bush administration tried to use its authority to swing public programming to the right. Kenneth Y. Tomlinson, Bush’s appointee to chair CPB, used federal funds to examine alleged liberal bias on the PBS program NOW, formerly hosted by Bill Moyers. He also helped raise $5 million to produce a PBS show hosted by The Wall Street Journal’s right-wing editorial board.

But under Obama, congressional Republicans pushed to eliminate funding for public broadcasting altogether. The found a ready cheering section from right-wing media, which frequently lashed out at “liberal” PBS and NPR. Critics typically say that public media should be able to easily make up the loss of the federal dollars.

That’s not the case. According to CPB’s statement, “The federal investment in public media is vital seed money -- especially for stations located in rural America, and those serving underserved populations where the appropriation counts for 40-50% of their budget. The loss of this seed money would have a devastating effect.”

Indeed, “the loss of federal support would mean the end of public broadcasting,” according to a 2012 report commissioned by CPB from Booz & Company.

The study reviewed alternative funding mechanisms but determined that none could adequately replace federal funding without compromising the mission of public broadcasting. “A reduction or elimination of CPB funding will put 63% (251) of radio stations and 67% (114) of television stations in the public broadcasting system at risk,” according to the report. Many of the stations at greatest risk for shuttering altogether are in rural areas that have more limited programming options -- some are the only broadcast stations available to their audience.

Booz’s report could not have been more explicit about the “inevitable consequences” of cutting off public funding:

El_Kabong 01-20-2017 01:01 PM

I haven't looked at any news today, so as far as I am aware, he hasn't done anything to piss me off. I'm not laying bets on tomorrow, however.

By cutting off NPR and PBS to rural areas, they further reduce the opportunities for people to educate themselves about their community, their state, their country, and their world.

Keeping them ignorant ensures they keep voting republican.

Jumboton obscuring the Lincoln monument. What the...?

Bricker 01-20-2017 01:40 PM

I thought the tone of his speech was jarring and jingoistic for an inauguration speech.

I suppose, for a candidate that made his bones by ignoring political norms, this should not surprise me. But it did. How do you go from thanking "the citizens of the world" to announcing that from this day forward it's "America first?"

Thanking the "people of the world" does suggest that he feels he owes his victory, at least in part, to persons or entities beyond our borders.

We don't need no stinking Lincoln. Lincoln got himself shot. I like presidents who don't get shot. LOSER!

My local news showed some scenes from the inauguration, which I didn't watch. They showed Hillary putting on a brave face, during what must have been torture for her. They showed her extending her hand to Pence, and Pence just walking right past her. Class.

I just listened to his speech as a result of reading your post, and I didn't find his speech angry or dictatoresque. Populist and nationalist, for sure, but in fact, given the audience he seeks, I found it quite good and collected.

He, or someone responsible for his PR, put up a photo of joyful crowds at Obama's 2009 inauguration on the POTUS Twitter account, and then removed it after somebody noticed the con.

It's a very minor thing, but irritating on a par with showing stacks of brand-new folders and paper as his alleged legal paperwork at the press conference, or posing at a receptionist's desk for a photo of him allegedly working on his speech.

Like, either he simply can't tell the difference between a superficial impression and reality, or he just figures we're all too dumb to notice.

Quote:

In one of his very first substantive moves as president, Donald Trump signed an executive order Friday that will result in a hike to many first-time homeowners’ mortgage bills.

Trump, who claimed a populist mantle in his first speech as a president, signed the executive order reversing an Obama-era policy less than an hour after leaving the inaugural stage.

The order will have the immediate effect of increasing the amount that most non-wealthy homeowners must contribute to the Federal Housing Authority’s insurance program. Beginning Jan. 27, most borrowers will now have to pony up six-tenths of a percent of their mortgage each month, up a quarter of a percentage point from last year. Americans with $200,000 mortgages will pay roughly $500 more in 2017 than they did in 2016, according to the FHA.

I'll admit to my thorough ignorance of this issue. But, why was this at the very top of his to do list? I don't recall FHA mortgage insurance rates being a major campaign issue for him. Yet, of all the things he could have done in the first hour of his presidency, he picked this kind of arcane issue that will seemingly do little other than suck a few more bucks out of lower and middle class homeowners. The hell?

psychobunny 01-20-2017 11:49 PM

He signed an order allowing Federal agencies to roll back ACA requirements. This means that the mandated minimum coverage can be gutted. So now even if people have access to health care it can be really really crappy health care. He has essentially turned the insurance companies into death panels that decide who lives or dies depending on their bottom line and profit margin.
