Arrow Season 7
Arrow premieres October 15. I don't know how many Dopers are still watching this show, but since I'm doing the other Arrowverse shows, I'll throw this one in for completeness. The trailers, at least, look interesting enough.

Comic Con trailer:
Season 7 trailer:

Cast changes: Colton Hayes rejoins as Roy Harper/Arsenal. Willa Holland (Thea Queen) and Paul Blackthorne (Quentin Lance) will no longer be part of the cast.

MaxTheVool 10-10-2018 01:30 PM

This past season I enjoyed Arrow more than either Flash or Supergirl. (I've never watched Legends of Tomorrow, but heard that it's gotten REALLY good recently).

I think Arrow has done the best job of having a tone and sticking too it. Flash has been all over the place, and Supergirl is way too much happy inspiring girl power and not enough storytelling and excitement and plot and plausibility. (Melissa Benoist continues to just NAIL it, however.)

N9IWP 10-10-2018 06:56 PM

I plan on watching. Thea was very annoying in the early season(s), but improved greatly.
I thought the Diaz was a bit too omnipotent/omniscient last season.

I really didn't notice the improvement. I also always thought the Roy Harper actor wasn't up to snuff either. The Vancouver talent pool is pretty thin.

Legends is the show that managed to salvage Damian Darhk from the shambles of Arrow season 4 and turn him into an outstanding villain. Twice. Watch Legends and thank Beebo for the gift.

Arrow S07E01: Inmate 4587
Arrow season 7 premieres tonight. Episode summary:

Following Oliver's shocking decision to turn himself over to the FBI and reveal his identity as the Green Arrow to the public, Oliver has spent the past five months in Slabside Maximum Security Prison. Determined to keep a low profile to shorten his sentence for the sake of his family, Oliver is tested when he runs into old foes. Meanwhile, Diggle and Dinah have taken on new jobs and left their costumes behind but not everyone is following suit. With her focus on William, Felicity tries to start over but when someone from her past resurfaces, things become complicated.

I am somewhat disappointed that Olivers prisoner number isn't 24601.

Terminus Est 10-16-2018 02:21 AM

Random thoughts while watching the premiere:

Hooray, Diaz finally took out Felicity! Oh, it's just a dream. Boo!
Later: Diaz is losing his touch. He almost got taken out by Felicity.

Lian Yu again? Didn't that place got blown up real good? Another flashback? I thought they weren't going to do those anymore.
Later: Oh, it's a flashforward. Arrow doesn't really know how to do flashforwards. (See graveyard scene in Season 4.)

Good to see Vinnie Jones back on the screen, now that Deception's been cancelled.
Later: That was it? I thought his head was harder than that.

Has the news always been on channel 52? Because News 52.

MaxTheVool 10-17-2018 03:01 PM

I may be the only person who really enjoys Diaz as a villain. The actor is just so magnetic. That said, I guess we're supposed to assume that Argus showed up just in time to save Felicity but not in time to actually capture him? That seems a bit silly.

Decent start to the season. Any speculation on who the fake Green Arrow is? Roy Harper has to be the obvious speculation, right?

Since when is evil Laurel the DA. And is she still evil? I've completely forgotten.

Terminus Est 10-18-2018 12:01 PM

Roy is the obvious candidate for fake Green Arrow. Could also be Diggle. Could also be future grown up William, come back in time.

Evil Laurel claimed to be dead Laurel, so the former basically took over the latter's whole life.

S07E02: The Longbow Hunters
The Longbow Hunters promo:

FELICITY IS DETERMINED TO FIND DIAZ AT ANY COST - In order to track down Diaz from inside prison, Oliver realizes that will require aligning with an old enemy. Meanwhile, in Star City, Felicity's attempts to root out Diaz are thwarted by Diggle, whose allegiance to ARGUS now requires him to keep civilians like her on the outs. Realizing that she can no longer rely on her old team or old methods, a clear-eyed Felicity resolves to find a new way to go after Diaz.

I was thinking Speedy - I thought there was bust-line when they showed faux-Arrow working on the arsenal?

Terminus Est 10-23-2018 02:19 AM

Two episodes into the season and I'm already tired of Felicity's whining. They better get Diaz soon if only to shut her up.

Why was the gang of Diaz's baddies called the Longbow Hunters? They didn't wield any bows nor did anyone they were fighting against, neither ARGUS nor Team No-Arrow. In fact, there was a dearth of bows and arrows this episode. They were only shown in the flashforward segments and never in fact used.

The highlight of the episode was the Black Siren+Black Canary team up. There could be a whole show with just those two taking down baddies.

Licentious Ectomorph 10-25-2018 05:39 PM

It's possible that this was all explained at some point and my memory is failing me.

After Good Laurel was killed, it became public knowledge that she was the Black Canary - a statue of her was erected and everything. So now that Bad Laurel has taken her place, how is Laurel's return from the dead being explained to the public? Also, why wasn't Bad Laurel the prime suspect for being the Black Canary when the team was under investigation and it was known that there was a Canary running around?

ALSO also, is Bad Laurel qualified to be the D.A.? I suppose I could grudgingly buy that she was a lawyer on her Earth, but I don't recall that having been established, and years of rigorous schooling and dedication to public service don't seem to be her thing. She wouldn't be able to fake it for very long.

Edit: misspelling

Terminus Est 10-26-2018 12:14 AM

Evil Laurel read some law books while she was rooming with Quentin Lance. That makes her as qualified as anyone else to be Star City DA.

They'll never openly admit this, but Evil Laurel slotting smoothly into OG Laurel's life is the Arrow writers' tacit acknowledgement that killing Laurel in the first place was a mistake.

S07E03: Crossing Lines
Crossing Lines promo:

CURTIS GOES UNDERCOVER FOR ARGUS - Still in prison, Oliver faces his biggest challenge yet. Meanwhile, Felicity gets an intriguing offer, and Diggle asks Curtis to go undercover for ARGUS.

Terminus Est 10-30-2018 08:27 AM

Felicity, or rather Emily Bett Rickards, does righteous indignation much, much better than moping and weeping. I quite enjoyed her goading Agent Watson into going off the reservation to catch Diaz. Too bad Diaz got away and Watson got kicked back to DC.

What was the MacGuffin that Diaz stole from the CDC? Mirakuru? I think we've seen this plotline before.

I thought Oliver would be on his way out of prison by now but apparently he's going to Level 2. Will they have naked shower fights there? He'd better be out in time for the crossover.

Terminus Est 11-05-2018 07:21 AM

S07E04: Level Two
Level Two promo:

RULES ARE MADE TO BE BROKEN - Oliver makes a drastic move in his quest to find Diaz. Like her husband, Felicity pulls out all the stops to get to Diaz. Meanwhile, when arsonists target Rene's community center, injuring Zoe (guest star Eliza Faria) in the process, the mysterious new Green Arrow swoops in to help save the day. Faced with pressure from the mayor to capture the vigilante, Dinah must decide if following the rules at all costs is the best plan to keep the city safe.

Terminus Est 11-06-2018 05:00 AM

The Flash melts one Beebo with acid and cryogenically shatters three others. Supergirl tramples a Beebo into the mud. Meanwhile, Arrow gives Beebo to an injured girl to provide her some comfort; there may be hope for this show yet.

Oliver's scenes in Level 2 were extremely tiresome. How many times are we going to go over the same old ground? We get it already.

Future Star City, with Dinah silenced and Zoe taking up the mantle of Black Canary, appears to be leading up to the craptastic city we saw in the Legends episode "Star City 2046", with an embittered one-armed Oliver Queen and John Diggle Jr going by the name Connor Hawke. Does anyone believe Felicity is really dead?

FELICTY DISCOVERS A SECRET ABOUT OLIVER; CURTIS GOES UNDERCOVER - Felicity learns something new about Oliver that shocks her. Meanwhile, Diggle asks Curtis to go undercover for ARGUS. Dinah works with an unlikely ally.

Terminus Est 11-13-2018 12:27 AM

Talia! Hallway fight scene! The season is coming together pretty nicely. Did you catch the Gotham reference?

The Felicity+Dinah+Evil Laurel teamup was like a budget Birds of Prey. They worked pretty well together. It was a better display of #Feminism than The Flash.

Due Process promo:

LAUREL STEPS IN TO HELP OLIVER - Slabside becomes even more dangerous after a guard is murdered and everyone is a suspect. Felicity enlists help from a surprising source in her pursuit of Diaz, and Laurel flexes her muscles as the District Attorney.

Terminus Est 11-20-2018 06:23 AM

So is anyone still watching? I feel like I'm just posting to a blog here.

I'm glad Diaz didn't kill Anatoly. He may be a son of a bitch, but he's our son of a bitch.

I like the Silencer's device. It's a great counter to not just one, but two sonic screams. The muting sound effect is rather cool, plus it's the only thing that can shut up Felicity.

epbrown01 11-20-2018 09:52 AM

I'm still watching the thread, but I haven't watched an episode of any CW DC shows this season.

N9IWP 11-20-2018 12:25 PM

I'm still watching (though I fell asleep somtime during last night's episode -- this is more on me and less on the excitment level of the episode).
Will watch it online soon.

N9IWP 11-20-2018 09:22 PM

OK, watched the Nov 19 episode. (I fell asleep just before the battle with Diaz)
I assume Oliver's friend actually did kill the guard.
Any over/under for how many episodes before Diaz escapes? (I presume he has guards in his payroll)

Terminus Est 11-20-2018 11:25 PM

Previews for the next episode show Diaz instigating a prison riot, so I presume he's going to escape in the ensuing chaos.

The Slabside Redemption promo:

JAMES BAMFORD DIRECTS AN EPIC EPISODE - Oliver makes a choice that will affect his entire life, as well as the lives of everyone he cares about.

I would have thought that choosing to go to prison would have done this, but what do I know?

N9IWP 11-27-2018 05:33 AM

OK, I guess I should have picked "Diaz escapes before even getting into prison". I was right about having a guard on his side.

Terminus Est 11-27-2018 06:30 AM

Kirk Acevedo as Diaz made for a really good villain. I'm going to miss him (the actor, that is), but I'm really glad the Dragon is finally gone. I'm going to guess that Oliver's "friend" in prison is going to be the next Big Bad. He transformed from mousy inmate to straight-up psycho. Pretty good setup by the writers.

N9IWP 11-27-2018 08:55 PM

Are we SURE Diaz is gone? because he was (barely) alive when we last see him. Unless we see him unquestionably* dead I'm not counting him out (and maybe not even then)

*like his head and vital organs removed from his body and cremated separately. throw some into the sun and some into volcanoes

Well, Diaz is alive and at the moment seems reasonably secured. Will he required to be outside (even shackled) to provide the help John and Lyla want? And will he escape?

You were right, Diaz isn't dead. And now A.R.G.U.S. wants to recruit him, possibly to form another Suicide Squad. This isn't going to end well, is it?

It turns out the new Green Arrow is Oliver's half sister. They haven't revealed her name yet, but if they're more or less sticking to the comics, she would be Emiko Queen. In the comics, she is Shado's daughter; the TV show probably won't go with that origin.

Next week is the Elseworlds three-way crossover between The Flash, Arrow, and Supergirl. In case you haven't seen it yet, I've started a separate thread for the crossover here.

Terminus Est 01-21-2019 05:49 AM

S07E10: My Name is Emiko Queen
At some point, the episode title changed from "Shattered Lives" to "My Name is Emiko Queen". The original promo released before the mid-season hiatus still has the original name. The new extended promo released last week has the new name. The following episode synopsis remains the same though.

Shattered Lives promo:
My Name is Emiko Queen extended promo

OLIVER RETURNS TO HIS REGULAR LIFE IN STAR CITY - Oliver is ready to get back to work with the SCPD and to focus on his marriage with Felicity. However, when Dinah tasks Oliver with tracking the new Green Arrow (Sea Shimooka) things take a surprising turn. Meanwhile, Diggle and Lyla must answer to ARGUS about Diaz.

Terminus Est 01-22-2019 12:42 AM

Great callback to season 1. I am fairly certain that Blake Neely busted out the season 1 music, while Emiko was working on her list, the same theme music used for Oliver while he was working on his list. Was Emiko's monologue the same as Oliver's as well? It was, at least, quite similar. I quite enjoyed Emiko's storyline and her teaming up with Rene. The A.R.G.U.S. stuff, not so much.

Rene will stop shaving his head at some point in the future. Rene with hair is not a good look. Also, isn't the Glades just a neighborhood or district of Star City? I wouldn't think it would be large enough to be sustainable as a relatively independent entity. Or maybe future Star City will go to pot and the Glades (with Mayor Wild Dog in charge) takes over the good stuff. They'll still care enough about it to blow it up.

It appears I was right about them assembling another Suicide Squad, although Lyla didn't seem to be too happy about it. Remind me, who is Dante and why does A.R.G.U.S. care so much about him?

Past Sins promo:

DAVID RAMSEY DIRECTS HIS FIRST EPISODE OF ARROW - The past comes back to haunt both Oliver and Laurel. Curtis is upset when he discovers that Diggle and Lyla have restarted The Ghost Initiative with Diaz (guest star Kirk Acevedo), China White (guest star Kelly Hu), Kane Wolfman (guest star Liam Hall) and Carrie Cutter (guest star Amy Gumenick).

Terminus Est 01-29-2019 11:07 PM

I commented in the Supergirl thread how the various season arcs well integrated with the episode plot. Even in The Flash, you can see how the various season plot threads are being woven together. This show, on the other hand, is meandering hither and yon with no apparent intention of consolidating the different plot elements.

Not to say that this was a bad episode. Curtis pulling the virtual reality trick with Diaz actually showed him to be Mr Terrific rather than Mr Terrible. We finally got to see some of Laurel-2's backstory. The Felicity/Laurel-2 teamup is unexpectedly good. Hopefully in the future they'll get together with Dinah again and we'll see the Star City Sirens.

ARROW FILMS THEIR 150TH EPISODE AS A DOCUMENTARY ENTITLED "THE HOOD AND THE RISE OF VIGILANTES" NARRATED BY KELSEY GRAMMER - The 150th episode of "Arrow" showcases a documentary entitled "The Hood and the rise of vigilantism" starring Oliver Queen, Felicity Smoak, and the rest of Team Arrow. As a camera crew follows Oliver and team around to talk about their past as vigilantes and what the Green Arrow means to Star City, Oliver must also deal with William's return from boarding school as well as a new threat to the city. The episode will feature "documentary footage" captured by the BTS crew and interviews from those who have worked alongside the Green Arrow. The documentary is narrated by Kelsey Grammer.

Terminus Est 02-06-2019 06:39 AM

I rather liked the faux documentary. It had a different opening, complete with theatrical WB logo, and shot in a different style than the typical episode. They even brought back Quentin and Thea. I wish the episode had been like that, though I understand that there were some scenes where the documentary cameras wouldn't have been present.

The future segment showed us Conner Hawke, A.K.A John Diggle, Jr., whom we saw dressed as the Green Arrow in the "Star City 2046" episode of Legends of Tomorrow.

I've finally caught up on this season and...meh. Not the worst, but also seems like it's going nowhere. I thought Roy was going to figure into this season; they keep name-dropping him, but maybe some Arsenal would kick things into high gear.

Roy has so far only appeared in the future segments. They haven't really given any indication how the future will derive from the present although they've finally shown how Dinah lost her cry.

I was wondering when we'd see Oliver's friend from prison again. I thought he'd become a new Big Bad but he turned out to be just a minor road bump. All he's done of note are to cut Dinah's throat and convince Oliver to ship William off to his grandparents. At least we won't have to watch any more scenes of adolescent rebelliousness.

D_Odds 02-15-2019 07:40 AM

As someone who always seemed to enjoy the secondary characters over the primary characters in the comics and on many series, one of my pre-Arrow favorites is now gone. Goodbye Curtis "Mr. Terrific" Holt. Too bad Arrow didn't elevate you the way I would have liked. Mr. Terrific deserved better, but with Arrow and Felicity filling the niche he should have fit in, he never stood a chance.

Terminus Est 02-15-2019 05:53 PM

I'd like to see Mr Terrific join the Legends. He'd be a better fit with them, traveling time and space, than cooling his heels with A.R.G.U.S.

Is Diaz finally dead? He got burned real bad but we didn't actually see a body, did we?

At last Dante makes his appearance. And the writers gave us a reason to care about him other than that he's a bad dude. He also answers the question of where Emiko got her training.

N9IWP 03-05-2019 08:53 PM

I'd guess Diaz is not dead -- he was still alive when we last see him. Unless I see his decapitated body with his head and body cremated separately and the ashes thrown into two different volcanoes I will treat him as alive.
If we just see the burnt body I will suspect a switch somehow. I would want VERY precise dental work and even then I would be suspicious.
(who lit him on fire? someone who can rig the plumbing to dispense flammable liquid. It was somebody Diaz recognized)

The best motivation for Dante training Emiko is to take out rival bad guys. And/Or as hinted at infiltrating team Arrow.

There could, in fact, be two.
