Trader Joe's is cleaned out

I went to Trader Joe's in West Seattle just now. Many of their shelves are bare. And it looks like they're getting low on 3-buck chuck. (Mrs. L.A. can go through a case a week.) I called, and was told that with the borders closed that there seems to be some difficulty getting some items. They've been hit hard by people stocking up, and their warehouse inventory is dwindling. They can't request specific items. They just take what they can get; and if I understood correctly, they're not getting as much.

I did get my Cobb salad, though.

I went to my local TJ's last weekend just to pick up a few routine items. It was pretty sparse even then. I was at least able to get my orange juice -- theirs is pretty much the only bottled OJ I like. I was able to get eggs, but I had to get the more expensive organic brown eggs; their cheaper "Crack a Smile" eggs were all sold out. I needed canned tomatoes for a soup I was making, but those were all gone. I ended up buying fresh ones because that was all they had. Actually there was plenty of fresh produce of all kinds. I had facial tissue on my list as I'm getting low on those; they were unsurprisingly all sold out. I prefer to get my tissue and TP from TJ's because of the higher recycled content, but I might have to just take what I can get for now.

Drove by my local TJ's a few minutes ago. There's a line of people waiting to get in. Apparently they're only letting a certain number of shoppers in at a time.

I went to TJ's last weekend since I was out that way. As far as I could tell it was completely fully stocked. I bought a bunch of bananas, as my brother told me that our local grocery store was low. Oh, most of the "new items" shelf was empty. I bought a 4-pack of sparkling strawberry juice.

People in Ohio don't use TJ's as their regular everyday store as much as they do in Washington, as far as I can tell. When I visited TJ's when I was in Redmond the store was 3x the size as the one out here in Cleveland.

Granted, it might be empty now. It's been 6 days since I was there.

Stop N Shop was less than 1/2 full on Tuesday. No gallons of milk surprisingly. Paper goods were minimal. Meat was not plentiful. etc. But hey, the lines were short and no wait for self-check out.

I have family in West Seattle. It isn't just the Trader Joe's that's struggling.

But I had to dash into the Madison, WI store today, and was pleasantly surprised. A lot of the stuff they were cleaned out of on Monday was back. And, yes, plenty of cheap-yet-tasty wine.
