The key to Trump's survival is Mitch McConnell, and to a lesser extent, Lindsay Graham, which is ironic when you consider how both have been attacked and chastened by Trump's base. But while they may fear Trump's base, they are also the ones who will punish Trump if the base so much as shrinks. As long as McConnell and the senate conservatives fear Trump's base, they will protect him. But if the base starts to peel voters, then you'll probably see senators, many of whom have crossed Trump, abandon Trump, not so much to punish Trump but to save their party in the senate. 42
