I experimented with making chocolate hummus a few weeks ago.

Result: My version was not bad, but not as nice as Nutella or similar spreads. The flavor was good, and went well wtih both salty and slightly sweet dipping media (pretzels and graham crackers, respectively). The texture was grainy, as you'd expect with hummus; I found that a bit off-putting, as it contrasts with the creamy smoothness I'm accustomed to from a sweet spread or dip, but I believe I would get used to it.

With some tweaking, I think I could make a version that would become a regular thing. I don't think I would ever get it as smooth as I would prefer with my present equipment, though.
