Ouchy! What was that bad, bad, bad needle prick for?

Warning, may trigger you if you have needle issues!!!

Went to the diabetic clinic today. Have to get IV antibiotics and freebies. Gotta love freebies!
Doctor spoke to me about my upcoming eviction of Pancho, the sick right kidney. He's very optimistic. I'm secretly scared to death, but I fake it good. He tells me the nurse will be coming in before I leave to give me a B12 shot.
My CGM alarmed as it was late for my lunch. They bring me a protein bar and juice.
The Nurse comes in with the shot. I'm alarmed at the size of the needle she flailing around in front of my face. Jeebus!

Now, folks...I've been getting and giving myself injections my whole life. I'm not afraid of needles. Which is suspect, because I'm afraid of EVERYTHING else.
That may have changed today. I'm using a CGM and insulin pump system now-a-days. I havn't had but a few insulin shots in a few months. And 2 glucose rescue shots. Rare lancings to check my glucose.
This Nurse directs me to expose a hip for the shot. She does the alcohol swab and jabs me. Jesus H. Christ!! That really hurt. I let out a squeak. She apologized.
Dang, girl. Who taught you to give shots?
It's several hours later and my butt still hurts.
Now, here's another thing to freak me out about the surgery.
Aaaccckkk. Needles!!

Sounds like a deep muscle shot in your upper gluteus. I used to get testosterone shots there, with a HUGE friggin' needle. Those shots can hurt into the next day. It's not the nurse's fault.

<-----You're most correct Panache, I know a bigger needle into muscle hurts worse than a tiny insulin needle.
This morning I have a bruise and a swelling at the site. It doesn't hurt too much.
My butt has never seen sunlight and I'm very pale anyway so, I bruise easily.
I was just stunned how bad it pinched at the moment of injection.

Yesterday I had another IV and injections. The new nurse Clair was very gentle. I showed her the fading bruise from last week. She acted sufficiently outraged ()
Her shots did not hurt or bruise at all.

I go back tomorrow for some more blood testing. These peeps are gonna get all my blood. Vampires!
Marking down the days til surgery. ()

Good for Claire, I hope that you get her again, should you need more shots.

Sometimes, the patients take the brunt of a nurse who is having a bad day or is angry about something else. Other times, it's the nurse who gets socked by the patient.

Some nurses are better at it than others. I have huge, fat, juicy cubital veins that make lab techs' eyes light up. I get blood drawn every few months and have found lab techs vary considerably in painless poking proficiency. A few months ago, one blew the vein and I got a big bruise and a lump. The lump took over a month to go away. I felt that poke, whereas usually, I don't feel anything.

You won't have any shots in the hospital, will you, Becks? Won't everything be delivered IV? Or can't they do B12 shots that way?

And I think you've already told us this, but how long a hospital stay does the surgery involve?

I'm not sure about shots in the hospital. I'll be strung up to IV lines I'm sure. I have my PICC thing too. But, you wait they'll find something to poke in a hip.

I'll be in the hospital up to a week. And then to the recuperation/rehab place.
We went and saw the place yesterday. It tries real hard to be cheerful. It looked sad to me.

Mr.Wrekker said they have to make it like that to make you work hard to leave.
He thinks he's funny.

I hope you hit him.

Mr VOW has needed a lot of clobbering lately. He is not only being onery, but he makes jokes about it.

He found out The Daughter hits harder than I do.

A LOT harder!
