Can you please turn off the goddam tapatalk crap?!?

Jeebus, that annoying “Sent from my iPhone with tapatalk” is the “Regards, Shodan” of this place. I grit my teeth every time I see it. A cursory look says it can be turned off in the app settings. Could you guys try? Please? Just for the rest of us?

Thanks.

I thought, "Regards, Shodan" was the, "Regards, Shodan" of this place.

The Tapatalk stuff used to get on my nerves when I started seeing it elsewhere, starting several years back. I would think, "What makes you think I give a shit?" Then I chilled out. Still unnecessary, IMO, but so was my getting worked up over it. Too much other stuff pisses me off with actual cause, I can't spare the energy anymore.

EDIT: OTOH, if it can be easily turned off, it would be nice if what was essentially an advertisement could be removed from people's posts. Yeah, that would be nice.

Soon you will find out that you are entirely to blame for the fact that these kinds of things give you the shits. It is the SDMB way to point this out to you. Over and over again.

Worse is just the fact that if you're using the forum via tapatalk, it automatically converts everything after a 'sent from' occurring anywhere in a post into small italic font, because apparently, the only time it expects this to be used is in its own inane sign-off.

So, this is how the above post looks on my phone, for anyone not familiar.

OK, that is really special (in the PC 'special education' sort of way (or is that non-PC?)).

If Tapatalk wants its ad to be in small italic font, wouldn't it make more sense to change the font when it's putting it in, rather than when it's displaying it?

On my phone (using Tapatalk) this doesn’t happen.

I’ll leave the little checkbox checked

Hm. Based on this thread, I'm considering turning the Tapatalk tag back on.

I feel you, I really do. I think we should just ban people from posting from tapatalk.
Time to require everyone use a remote terminal.

Whether I have the box checked or not doesn't make a difference regarding whether it does the italics thing. It's perhaps a difference between the iOS and Android versions... So do feel free to uncheck the box (I've enabled the signature for this post, but edited it to blank text, just to see what happens).

Lots of things would make more sense, including just not fucking doing it, or only doing it if it's the last paragraph of a post, but I suppose that you can't count on the requisite vBulletin-code being accepted by all forums, or the right fonts being present.

Might be a better idea than trying to read the Dope on a phone (which I'd only do when I was out on running or on my bike... gets awkward, so I just wait 'til I get home).

Blame Apple. They're the ones who started all this with the "sent from my iPhone" crap.

Sent from my desktop IntelTM CoreTM i7-3770 @3.40 GHz running Firefox on Windows 7 while sitting in a desk chair wearing a fluffy but vaguely fashionable dressing gown and drinking a Caesar with probably too much vodka, but in these difficult and challenging times who cares?

Tapatalk should mean conversation over a meal of tapas.

ETA: Or maybe conversation about tapas.

I always imagine it to mean a conversation conducted in Morse code using 19th century telegraph equipment.

I kinda figured that it could be useful to know that they're posting from a mobile all if there's any formatting errors/weird typos (especially since the ongoing server issues often make the editing window close before you can submit corrections).

I completely agree. Too many times I have linked to the SDMB only to have people respond "Ugh, it's asking me to download an app", whereupon I have to remind them they can select 'no'. But by then the interest in whatever we were discussing has waned and it's doubtful they read the linked to topic, much less browsed the Board.

In short, the Tapatalk query inhibits Board exposure and growth by giving people the expectation an app is needed to enjoy the SDMB.

Amen!

I've been so annoyed by the tipitytapitytalk sig line that when I was confronted with "Hey, Potential Customer, would YOU like to download Tipitytapitytalk Pro 12.4.02?"... I ignored it. And kept using my browser.

So their "marketing" had the opposite effect of making me actively dislike them and not use their app.

I'm with DSeid:

Can someone explain what Tapatalk is and why one would need it? Does SD get some sort of kickback for users or something?

My iPhone & iPad auto log me in and I've never had any issues viewing and responding from them.

What value does it add? Does it suggest automatic snark replies or something?

Whenever I see the "sent from" message, I always think of an animated bird with a nasal problem who just walks around going, "A-tapatapatapa-talk, tapatapatapa-talk" all day long.
