Body shaming men.

Small rant.

I saw my ex girlfriend post a tweet making fun of some guys height. She's also goes after a men's penis size as well. This is a person who should understand the effects body shaming can have on someone.

I know that it's not representative of all women. I do see a lot of it though. Smarter people probably wouldn't use ad hominem attacks, I guess... it just bothers me because I'm short.

Anyway... Any comments welcome and thanks for listening.

If a woman asks for your height, respond by asking for her BMI.

Agreed that a lot of people inexplicably seem to think that making jerkish remarks about men's appearance is more acceptable than doing the same to women. Not just height but baldness and other physical characteristics get thoughtlessly picked on.

Not that you in any way need my personal validation about this, but just reminding you that a lot of us actually prefer shorter guys. Still not cool to be passing irrelevant judgements on other people's physical appearance, of course, whether positive or negative.

She's being a jerk. Height-shaming is some of the dumbest crap out there (well, TBF, penis size shaming is also pretty dumb).

Also, y'know, if she's any kind of feminist, does she really want to be buying into this 'tall people are better than short people' steaming pile? Pretty sure I know which sex is going to find themselves on the wrong size of that comparison more often. Is she okay with tall men disrespecting short women, and treating them like children? Because that's a thing too.

I'm a 5'10" woman (married to a 5'7" bloke )- it's no personal skin off my nose if people believe this kind of crap, except that I can in fact recognise a pile of crap when it's put before me. And, sadly, proof that women can choose to be jerks just like men can.

Body shaming is bad, but I'd also recommend to the OP to put some distance between him and his ex.

I rarely get pissed at anything an ex does because I have no idea what they are up to, or what they are saying.

Well, you dodged a bullet there...

... that would've hit a taller guy in the head!

As a guy who's short where it counts, I can relate (and I also just found out how prejudiced my ex has become).

This.

Who was the comedian who said that his ex- told him "You'll never find anybody like me again"? and he was like...great!

Find someone who sees and values what you have to offer.

Yeah... I try to avoid her, we just follow a lot of the same people on Twitter.

Lucky I'm not on Twitter often.

Just thought she was above this and sorry to see she isn't.

At a party in pre-corona times, a friend's ex mentioned that the friend's new car wasn't all that was tiny (he had a restored MG Midget). I pointed out to the listeners that that car must have looked even smaller in the airplane hanger of a garage where he sometimes parked it.

And I'm the bad guy.

I noticed the O.P. was personally offended because he says he is also short. But the ex posted TWO comments, the other of which didn't hit a personal nerve.

Not bad, O.P. Very subtle way of letting the entire Doper community know that you're swingin' some pipe without having to come right out and brag about it.

That would have been unseemly.

More seriously: Can you outright block her on Twitter so you don't have to see her crap at all? You're right that this sort of bullshit rarely gets called out.

Remember that women and minorities are, broadly speaking, in a lower position than straight white men, so picking on them is the equivalent of hitting a guy who's much smaller than you. Picking on dudes is basically punching up, and everyone cheers in movies for that!

But that doesn't make it okay to poke fun of short guys, or short-where-it-counts guys (thanks for that, whoever just posted that phrase - imma steal it!) and it says nothing good about her that she'd permanently and publicly make that kind of statement.

People who make fun of other people's bodies should be stayed as far away from as possible.

Congratulations on her being your ex.

JMESHO here, but anyone who body shames should be obligated to provide a nude photo of themselves to validate their denigration of someone else's body
Was your ex some sort of Victoria's Secret underwear model? if not, she should keep her mouth shut

I freely admit that I am a short, barrel chested, nearsighted old man with rapidly thinning grey hair.

This implies that it is indeed okay to make fun of people who aren't as good-looking. Victoria's Secret models shouldn't get a pass to denigrate other people's physical characteristics.

Although I get what you're saying about the pot calling the kettle black.

Be adult about it. Go ahead and list all her precious little idiosyncrasies.
You know? For the greater good of mankind, and her future mates.

(Or just to get her back)

She should keep her mouth shut anyway. Having a body that's currently in style is no reason to mock anybody else's.

Sorry I was maybe not clear in my meaning. No one should get a pass for body shaming no matter what they look like.
