Yes, but I think what went down is enough to make a dodgy news site jump to the wrong conclusion, while also you can't really trust a press release.

...well the Picard trailer is out. Obvious spoilers for the series, would suggest watching it first before reading any posts that follow.

Not so lame. Picard and Seven both were assimilated by the Borg. Seven would have had a connection with Picard during his time as Locutus. Even after being rescued, both seem to have a vestigial connection to the Borg, and would presumably have had some type of telepathic connection to each other.

Looks promising. No prequel or reboot. This could be just what I want from a new Star Trek. Not that they aren't fully capable of finding a way to ruin it.
I'd like Worf back, just to see him carry a disassembled Data on his back.

Quark and The Grand Nagus are about the only ones from DS9 that would be worth seeing again.

What, no Kai Opaka or Aleek-Om? LITERALLY UNWATCHABLE.

Seriously tho, it looks amazing. All I've ever wanted from Trek the past 20 years was something that actually moves the story forward.

This might actually be interesting. I'll give it a few episodes, just based on the teaser. I wasn't too impressed before - now I'm intrigued.

I'd love to see what Garak's been up to. I'm also interested in seeing how things are going for Starfleet's first Ferengi.

The debut episode looks very interesting. Hoping it is an episode focused on the Borg. It's really creative to bring back Jonathan Del Arco as Hugh and Jerri Ryan, Seven of Nine.

This concept would have made a great movie. I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes. Will the entire season focus on the Borg and the mysterious woman Picard wants to help? That could be a lot of fun to watch.

It'll still be good if this is just a 90 minute story for the pilot. I'm just not sure where it goes from here? Picard is a bit old to resume patrolling space with a young crew. There's too many great candidates graduating Star Fleet Academy that deserve a chance to serve as Captains on Starships.

I think they must have something else in mind for Picard after the first story ends. There has to be a reason he gives up retirement.

Marina Sirtis confirms that Troi and Riker are back.

Does this mean we'll get a USS Titan story? I'm hoping it does.

Yeah, the central tease of the trailer is who is that young woman who's in serious danger?

We see her emoting a bit, also running at an unnatural speed and kicking some ass against apparently holosuite characters.

Also, Picard and Data are playing poker. Any thoughts about whether that's also in a holosuite?

Are you talking about the shot of her kicking the guy off the stairs? I think the guy was being beamed out of the fall, not a holodeck character disappearing. It sounded like it had a beaming sound effect, anyway.

Oooh, yeah. Could be transporter.

But that doesn't mean that's not the central Maguffin. She's some sort of enhancile/alien/whatever. She clearly exceeds human norms.

That's clearly not a Starfleet ship they're on, and Picard isn't the one sitting in the Captain's chair, that beardy fellow is.

She's almost certainly a former Borg or something. It looks like the Romulans are holding a lot of humans in that prison facility with the "5843 days without an assimilation" notice, including her. So she clearly escapes there.

5843 days is just under 16 years so, a little less than the 20 years Picard mentions have passed since Insurrection - which is also, coincidentally (?), the age of Isa Briones. Although they may also have her play a 16 y.o., it's Hollywood after all.

And I can't help but mention that that's not what a MacGuffin is...

I don't understand how so many people recognise Third of Five, aka Hugh, as though we're all familiar with who that is, when I have no memory at all of him. I don't even know which one he is in the trailer.

This guy. He was found disconnected from the Collective in I, Borg and then gets mixed up with Lore's shenanigans in the two-parter Descent.

There's a brief shot of a borgified corpse being prodded at 1:46 in the trailer. I don't know if that's Hugh, but it's been confirmed that Jonathan Del Arco will be playing Hugh on the show.

Innnnteresting. This could actually be worth a look (although I'd rather see Picard back in command of a Starfleet ship, or as an admiral at Starfleet Command, wrestling with decisions as he sends younger officers out to do the sweaty stuff).

Star Trek: Picard

Well, let me start by saying I have no dog in this fight. I do not watch TV and am unwilling to pay for more TV channels.

Still, I saw the trailer, and I am not impressed. It seems dark. Star Trek is not supposed to be dark. I do not like what I have seen.

Further, the idea of "Picard in Retirement" is a neat idea. We do not need another starship. We certainly do not need Star Fleet Academy. What I would like to see is earth in the Star Trek's post-scarcity economy. What is France like? What do retired people do in the XXV Century?

Or not. I have no taste. I am often wrong.

What do you think?

Since human life expectancy is around 150 years, I suspect they spend a lot of time mulling over Zephram Cochrane's wise comment "Immortality consists largely of boredom."

1) Writing his memoirs,
2) Commenting on starship design
3) On the board of the local high school
4) Learning to bake, a recurring theme throughout the series.
5) Keeping the family vineyards going.
6) Dealing with various nieces and nephews

Picard in retirement would have a lot of options and many chances for guest stars. But of course my emails go unreturned.

Ah, yes. Improving and enriching himself!

Me, I'd rather relocate to the South Pacific and be a beach bum.

There's another trailer that strongly suggests that it's not about Picard in retirement.

I'm strongly anti-Trek with these producers. STD is a cringey mess. (Oddly enough with strong plots but horrible execution)

The Kelvin movies are entertaining but just deconstructing and selling for parts.

All that said....I think this looks good. My main quibble is the weak tropish "possible savior/ special anointed one"

But the pros would seem to outweigh this. It feels good to be back in a post TNG world with familiar faces and tech that makes sense. I'm very optimistic....and seriously part ways with the usual crybaby YouTube personalities who hate all things Trek/Wars*

* I agree with them on a lot but man they have blind spots

There is a mystery that brings Picard out of retirement, involving Seven of Nine and Data.

ETA: Riker and Troi will also appear at some point.

Picard as a retiree walking along his vines sounds like a really boring show. So does any other idea the OP floated. While I think these producers are hacks, this show intrigues me a bit. Maybe not enough to pay for it, but we shall see.

TNG is the only Star Trek iteration that I actively dislike as opposed to merely didn't get into. This still manages to look potentially interesting. An older warrior dealing with his traumas in retirement called back in a way that includes that character growth offers some real potential.

If they bring back much of the cast of TNG for anything but brief cameos I'm going to feel very, very stabby though. Worf and O'Brien get exceptions.

Weren't you paying attention to the movies? Picard is it for the family. His brother and nephew died in a fire, and there are no other siblings. So unless Jean-Luc is in a few sperm banks. the line dies with him.

No. I have not seen a Star Trek movie, or TV show in donkey's ears. Thanks for asking.

A series that can bring people back from the dead and recreate entire planets that were destroyed could certainly introduce long-lost relatives.

Surely all surviving captains of the Enterprise since Archer have been put out to stud. Old fashion, yes, but that's the human factor they are always talking about. I expect the show is stuff that happens between his dates with young women. No doubt keeping Data around to organize his schedule.
