Music to rock the Apocalypse by

So it's The End: Against a black-clouded sky swarming with bat-winged demons, the Earth's crust cracks open and Apollyon arises from the abyss, joining Surtur and his flaming sword. R'lyeh arises out of boiling oceans. The armies of the unholy dead slay and drink the blood of the living, while cyborg death machines fight a losing battle against them. The moon is blown into a field of asteroids and the sun is darkened. Suicide air crews carry 100 megaton hydrogen bombs to their targets, while missiles powered by unshielded nuclear reactors mop-up the rest. Dogs and cats are seen living together, and the joker laughs at you.

So what background music do you envision all this happening to? I nominate VanHalen's "Running With the Devil".

Jimmy Buffett, of course. Start with Party At the End of the World then slide into Apocalypso.

Or go the other way with Through the Fire and the Flames by Dragonforce.

WHAM!*

Y'see, I'm envisioning myself with a big ol' 80s boom box, taking a stand against the hordes of hell. I press PLAY, and incredibly bouncy, optimistic pop blares forth. I start doing a White Dad Dance, as enthusiastic as it is cringeworthy. Other dads stumble to their bloodied feet and join in...

Hordes of hell start to dissipate.

Had Enough by The Who/John Entwistle

Quote:
I'm gettin' sick of this universe
Ain't gonna get better, it's gonna get worse
And the world's gonna sink with the weight of the human race
Hate and fear in every face
I'm gettin' ready and I've packed my case
If you find somewhere better, can you save my place?
Fooling no one
But ourselves
Love is dying
Here comes the end, here comes the end...of the world

As much as this band's hit songs all sound very alike, I'll say Everclear's "Santa Monica" qualifies with it's "swim out past the breakers, watch the world die" hook.

The night's events in Manhattan reminded me of my favorite ballad of the apocalypse - Billy Joel's Miami 2017 (Seen the Lights Go Out on Broadway).

Metallica, good call. Also The Four Horsemen and For Whom the Bell Tolls.

A nice deep dark sludgy soundtrack for the Apocalypse: Electric Wizard - Funeralopolis

And I would add REM - It's The End Of The World for an incrongruent soundtrack.

Genesis - Supper's Ready

There's an angel standing in the sun
And he's crying with a loud voice
"This is the supper of the mighty one"
Lord of Lords, King of Kings
Has returned to lead his children home
To take them to the new Jerusalem

If you're going to go classical, Carl Orff's O Fortuna from Carmina Burana is traditional end-of-the-world music.

Flash and the Pan specialized in apocalyptic music in a minor key. The song dealing with a nuclear apocalypse was "California," but they also dealt with the Titanic ("Down Among the Dead Men") and the destruction of Atlantis ("Atlantis Calling"),

I'd go with some classic Goth. Maybe Sisters of Mercy's Black Planet, maybe Fields of the Nephilim's Trees Come Down, maybe Siouxsie's Cities In Dust.

Or maybe something more downtempo - I think Swans' Goddamn The Sun will serve.

I'm going out with a beer and some irony.

Unless you are going out with a detrmined, yet fatalistic suicide stand. Then you want Led Zepplin - Immigrant Song for the scream
