Well it is for me, but that just be because I am not very imaginative, and crap at combat.

Prior to the wipe from beta I made a goodly amount by running missions ( take X to Y etc) , once I can get back into the swing of things that may be the way to go. I suck at combat and can almost guarantee and interruption from the kids as soon as I get into combat , so that's not going to work.

Seams like I am making some money just by picking up exploration data when running from one system to another.

Looks like I've found a new game to get into when I inevitably become bored with this one. Rebel Galaxy appears to be one part Elite, one part Starflight 2, and one part "Firefly".

Found a nice double binary on my lunch break. K/K and M/L within 250ls of each other.

Staying in fuel scoop range until I can play more.

Nice!

I'm thinking of joining the Fuel Rats. Anyone have experience with them?

(P.S. I've discovered the joy of fighting in conflict zones. Need to do it with something other than my current, highly decked-out Asp, though.)

I've had some success in a highly decked-out Viper but that was pre-Power Play. Mainly remained on the fringe for fleeing reds I could pick off.

By the way, here's the Fuel Rats page on Inara.

I've been invited to join Paladin Consortium and they sound like my kind of people. Unless we Dopers want to start our own?

If we do come together as a unified front, perhaps call ourselves Combat, Exploration, and Commerce Initiative, Limited?

Considering the origin of my commander's name: Dork Steel or some other pun on The Dark Wheel?

The Asp is fine (not great; frankly the Diamondback Scout was overall more fun), but I'm thinking of kitting out a Vulture, actually, dedicated to the purpose. Word is they can take out Anacondas (NPCs anyway.) Considering I can already take out NPC Pythons 1 on 1 in the Asp, I believe it.

Sure, why not?

The Fuel Rats are pretty loosely organized, but it sounds like fun.

I've been trading metal to the Kaushpoos system for the current CG, already have earned a 7 million CR bonus. Woo-hoo!

The more I hear from the boss Paladin, the more I like his group, but I also like the idea of Dopers banding together. We could do that and ally ourselves with the Paladins, and their allies, giving each other a hand when we can. We just need a name I and I can register us at Inara.

I've posted my available flight logs if anyone is interested in what I've been up to for the past nine months.

I did well in the last CG (top 40% with the Asp), so now I've kitted out a specialist bounty-hunting Vulture. It's pretty fun! I hate that the only weapons that are really appropriate for it are twin pulse lasers (SO boring) but so it is. It handles like an enraged velociraptor.

Flew my vulture to the Kaushpoos system for the new CGs, and man does this thing need a fuel scoop. The Asp spoiled me.

Done and done.

(Kept the Asp, by the way.)

PSA: no, even a fully-kitted Vulture is not really a match 1-on-1 for a decently skill-piloted Anaconda.

With a nice-sized cushion upon returning to civilization, especially if I still have my exploration data, I'll be checking out open play. Don't want to take a chance on losing that data in one shot.

If I was in my Asp, I wouldn't mind acting as a bodyguard when you do play.

Too far away to be of any assistance and my DB is unarmed.

Well that was foolish.
Left the computer I what I thought was pause , but I am in the open universe, came back a while later and have 2 hrs of super cruise at 2001c to get back to the station. I guess I should just warp out to another system And back

When I know I'll be away while in super cruise, I simply slow down as much as possible and stay within scooping range of a local star.

You only need to register there if you want to update system, station and/or commodity data.

I've been enjoying the Kaushpoos CGs in recent days. My Vulture Cathartes has served as my bounty hunter, and done very, very well, I might add. It's been tearing through the NPC pirates like my dog through that box of treats we left within her reach. Here's my vulture loadout, for those interested. I can swap out the hull upgrade for a 16T cargo rack when I wish to do some smuggling. I also used to run with SCBs, but rarely used them. Although, to be honest, I need at least one to take on an Anaconda one on one. I can swap out the fuel scoop for SCBs.

Anyway, I'm in the top 15% of pirate kills in the CG! Woo-hoo!

I actually have found it faster to earn bounty vouchers in the regular RES, as opposed to HazRES instances. Maybe that's not surprising—I can survive just fine in the HazRES; it's just slower. Those Feds helps out a lot.

I also decked out my Asp for mining. Which is very boring, to be honest*. But I'm in the top 33% for Palladium mined for the CG; again, woo-hoo!

I now almost have sufficient funding for my next upgrade, a Federal Assault Ship. Just earned the rank for it. I'm thinking of decking it out as a hybrid smuggler/bounty hunting ship. Probably with a loadout something like this. It ain't cheap, but the fire power should be impressive. I'll swap out the fuel scoop for SCBs if I'm doing pure combat.

*ETA: I've found I can make by far the most CRs per hour bounty hunting in a RES.

*EATA: Evading an interdict after your canopy has been breached is kind of interesting.

Or, maybe I should go straight for the Imperial Clipper. Rumor has it that stations in the Turir system have the Clipper available with no Imperial rank requirement. (I'm only a squire in the Imperial Navy.) Here's a possible loudout for the clipper. Only 26 million more credits than the Federal Assault Ship loadout I linked above.

Clipper: less maneuverable, less armor, better shields, almost 10% faster boost, higher jump range, much more cargo, easier to carry SCBs without compromising other internal compartment assignments, for rather more CR required. Cannot land at outposts.

Decisions, decisions.

Of course I don't quite have the CR to fully outfit either, much less pay the insurance premium...so this is all daydreaming at this point.

Jameson Memorial in Shinrarta Dezhra supposedly has all ships and equipment available at a 10% discount. Thing is, Shinrarta Dezhra requires a permit which is only available upon attaining the rank of Elite.

I'm one rank below in Exploration. Don't know if I'll have enough to make the final promotion from Pioneer to Elite when I get back.

3/5 or so home and I've taken to using economical jumps for more credits.

I wish they'd add a third option between economy and speed, set at half the maximum range. Or adapt the slider to let commanders choose.

CMDR Zaparthes, freshly reveling in bonuses from the Kaushpoos CGs, now the proud owner of a new Federal Assault Ship, the Thiasos. Currently she's decked out to fight for the Empire in the new CG in the Cayutorme system. Here's her current loadout: tank spec for Combat Zones.

The maneuverability for such a massive ship is nothing short of extraordinary. She's really almost every bit as nimble as my Vulture, with more fire power and the ability to sustain the lasers without draining the cooling capacitor at all. That, combined with rail guns or fixed multi-cannons, means an extreme degree of punishment directed to all targets. (Although, I usually save the rail guns for the most dangerous opponents.)

However, the shields are disconcertingly easy to strip. Luckily, her armor is such that she can sustain a beating without them, and she is fast enough to get away easily if necessary, but it means my repair bill after a fight is a bit on the expensive side, as is the ammo for the rail guns and SCBs.

Conflict Zones certainly accomplish one thing: beating the living heck out of your craft. And the bond payouts are a bit slight. And fighting for the Empire isn't wonderful. But the Cayutorme Syndicate opposing the Empire seems rather sketchy, at best. Duty calls.

While on my way to Kaushpoos, I found an outfitter with top of the line components for my Asp. Took five mil but now she has almost the same range as my Diamondback.

Looks like I'm stuck at 70% for the Kaushpoos goals. Had one successful kill while patrolling a Hazardous site then lost my Asp twice.

Docked the Asp and bought a Type-7 for heavy cargo runs. Found two lucrative courier missions that attracted hostiles. Both were to the same dock and I got there late with 13% left on the hull. Still got half the promised fee on one and ¾ on the other.

How's the Python treating you? I've wondered whether its handling limitations made it uninteresting for combat. The FAS is great; my only complaint really is its inability to handle heat very well. It's fun to fly nonetheless. I still use my Asp a lot for smuggling and such. The Vulture I should probably sell.

It sounds like the ultimate PVE fighter post-1.5 will be the Fer-de-lance.

Only got into one skirmish so far but she seems to be almost the same as the Asp with the current loadout. Need proper Large weapons but can only afford Medium so far.

Cargo capacity is a little more than what I had with the Type-7 configured for mining so there's that and she fits in Medium bays as opposed to the 7's Large. Opens more opportunities for missions with the access to Outposts.

Guess I should sell the Diamondback and strip the cannons off the Asp to make her my exploration vessel. Will be heading out after planetary landing hits. I wonder what surprises the airless rocks out there will hold...

I expect to spend some of this weekend checking out the beta for Horizons. Starts Friday, IIRC. Not sure when I'll be going back into the wild black yonder but I need another 49 mil to make Elite. Got that much on my last trip.

Ouch.

I got something interesting: three contracts in one system for pirate hunting, all from the same station. 605K total.

Weeelllllll...

I've been visiting all of the stations in the Sol system. Seeing the familiar planets gave me such an odd but wonderful thrill!

There was one incident, however. I usually consult the galactic map while the docking bay is setting up the ship for launch, and yesterday at Galileo station (in orbit around Earth's Moon) I took a wee bit too long doing so. I received a "pad Loitering" warning, and in my panic to get off the pad, got well and truly stuck. Subsequently Galileo destroyed my shiny new Python. Good times.

The Sol system has been good to me; I just had three pirate killing missions in the same nearby system, and two of them paid out more than a million credits each! With my "Dangerous" rank, I've been getting more and more lucrative combat missions in general.

Here's my current loadout for my Python, Fáfnir. This loadout is fabulous for wrecking Anacondas and other large ships.

My only real complaint about the Python is that it is so...fucking...slow...in...super cruise. Interdicting pirates is way faster in my FAS, which is also much faster at killing small ships, but much weaker at killing big ones. The Python's short jump range is mitigated in part by using a large fuel scoop (5A for mine.)
