Digital distribution summer sales 2019

Steam sale started today. After accumulating 1000+ video games I've managed to reel in my game buying and hardly buy anything anymore besides the monthly humble, so I won't be participating in the thread too much, but we've had threads like this for a while and I usually start them.

Steam is apparently the first one because I'm not seeing any sales on any of the other major distributors (origin, gog, ubisoft, greenman, etc). I'll add those as I see them.

I got a couple of Steam gift cards for my birthday yesterday so I’m looking forward to sales. I have hundreds of titles already and barely have time to play anything but that won’t stop me.

WTF? The Steam controller is not on sale. It's usually 50% off during these things.

I was looking around trying to check out the games I will want to keep an eye on, and wandered into the Microsoft store, where I see their new subscription "X box Game Pass for PC" service seems* to have an introductory month for 1 buck for the next week or so. Does anybody use the service yet? Is it any good?

* for $1 assuming there is no hidden comment bullshit, I'll probably try it anyway.

Here is a good search, Steam games at least 70% off, with an 80%+ user rating and under $5: https://steamdb.info/sales/?min_pric...&min_rating=80

Seems to me that Steam sales have gone to the dog(s).

Last day of the steam sale. This is the first time I may end up going an entire steam sale without buying anything, although I may end up spending $15 on a few things.

Worst sale they’ve ever done. I spent $0.

I picked up Trials Rising for 12 or so, and I think that will probably be it for Me.

Didn't buy anything new. I got some DLC for American Truck Simulator, but I would have bought that sale or no. I put the Metal Gear V bundle in my cart, the one with Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain together for $11.99 but I never checked out.

I picked up a couple of things that had been on my wish list for awhile: Super Mega Baseball 2 + DLC bundle and, although not on sale, the latest DLC for Pinball FX3. I had enough points from that Grand Prix promo for $5 off on both.

I ended up buying Divinity: Original Sin 2. The sale wasn’t great but I have had my eye on that game for some time now, and as I said I had some Steam gift cards to use up. The game so far is living up to its hype.

As a head's up, if you play Fane as your main character, unless they've patched it recently your ultimate ending is pretty much forced on you regardless of your choices, due to a fixed encounter right before the final part of the game. (Well, you get to pick which "flavor" of that ending you get, but that's about it. The general ending will be the same, and it's arguably the "evil" ending.)

There is a way to avoid that fixed encounter that is a bit of a cheese, but worth it if you want to avoid the railroad.

I'm pretty sure Fane's is the only narrative that has this happen.

Thanks for the warning!

I’m not playing as Fane though, he’s not even in my party. I didn’t care much for him, or dealing with the “heal by poison” mechanic.

I bought Witcher III plus the two add-ons for $15. Everybody says it's a great game, so I bought it even though I prefer POV first person shooters.

I won't be able to play it for a while, though, because my six-year-old PC can't handle it. It's my excuse to build a new PC, and with all the new hardware that came out this week, seems like a good time to do it.

One of my favorite games of all time, very good choice.

It’s an RPG but the action is very good. Hopefully you enjoy it.

Thanks for the link; that's very handy. I took a look, and realized I had always meant to buy Batman Arkham Asylum, which was very highly rated in its day, but never got around to it. Got it for five bucks. It's old enough that I can play it on my current PC while I'm buying parts for my new PC that I'll use to play Witcher 3. Retirement is good.

Playing undead isn't too bad once you understand how they work. And being immune to Deathfog is a nice perk...although, there is that one part where the programmers either screwed up or cheated and created an avoidable storyline deathfog trap that kills everyone who falls into it, including Fane. I knew it was suspicious, but I wanted to see what would happen, expecting Fane would at least survive. Good thing I wasn't playing honor mode....

Also, once you find out what Fane was before becoming one of the Undead, his story becomes very interesting. His story is probably the most relevant to the main plot of the game.

Although, one of his storyline quests overlaps a general main story quest and causes the quest update on the main storyline quest to glitch. You still get all the experience, and it doesn't impact gameplay in anyway, but the quest log update fails to correctly update for both quests when the same event occurs that is tied to both the main plot and Fane's subplot.

Actually, that can happen with a few characters (companions included) when they talk to NPC's that are relevant to them in particular and the main story arc in general. If you don't have the relevant character initiate conversation, they won't get that part of their story updated in the quest log (which may or may not effect their overall story).

It's my biggest complaint of the game. They didn't seem to blend the conversation trees very well for NPC's that are relevant to both the overarching plot and the specific character plots.
