And same here - silenus sent me a card with this on it, which came today. I loved that movie!

Also in today's mail is a card with a funny message from Karen Lingel - it's from this place, and it sounds pretty cool. If I ever find myself in Santa Cruz, I am definitely going to go there.

Thanks to you both!

I got my first card, from dbygawdcapn. That was fast! It shows a 16th century astrolabe from a shipwreck. dbygawdcapn writes that it may always show me the way, but I have to confess that I first need to learn to navigate after the stars, because I'm spoiled by GPS .

Just got a shiny Luray Caverns postcard from blondebear, who very generously also sent a packet of 1956 Las Vegas Strip postcards. Many thanks!

Mine are in the mail.

I received a hilarious postcard from Romansperson. I don't want to give anything away in case she has also sent the same one out to others, but I LOL-ed. She didn't even know my first nickname was Curly!

I also received a wonderful card from Silenus featuring an old beloved movie. It's now on my wall.

Thank you!!!

I sent my cards today. I also received a Seymour Marine Discovery Museum card from Karen Lingel (who assures me it's not just a "fish museum". BlondeBear's envelope also arrived! It contained a San Diego Zoo postcard with most of a giraffe on it with the Del Cornado hotel in the background. He also sent a vintage folder of "Views From Lookout Mountain" in Chattanooga, Tennessee. It's really cool! A friend of mine lives in Chattanooga so I'm going to send pics of it to her. She can't have it, though.

Both your cards were postmarked "Oakland, CA, 07 Sept 19 PM". Pretty small world.

Wow! 4 postcards from Maus Magill in one day.

1. Nashville, Tennessee: Music City
2. Memphis, Tennessee: Bars of Beale Street at night
3. Linville Caverns: A sleeping baby bat
4: Blue Ridge Parkway: Late summer

Maus, I love the mountains of WNC myself. One day we will retire there. My wife and I will be taking our annual vacation near Asheville in about 3 weeks. Had the Postcard Exchange been then I would have reciprocated with beautiful postcards of the Craggy Mountains.

As it is, my cards alas went in the mail today.

We were in Boone late last summer when I picked up the Blue Ridge Parkway and Linville Caverns cards. I wanted one of the Linville Gorge (The Single Most Beautiful Place on Earth), but no dice.

I received my first card today, from dbygawdcapn. It is from a cool museum that I'm going to add to my list for my upcoming vacation to the area. The card smells nice, too.

Yesterday I got a Kansas bison card from Baker, and from Karen Lingel a "bonus postcard" showing the dramatic surf at Lighthouse Point in Santa Cruz, Calif. Thanks! I presume the non-bonus postcard is still in the mail.

Nayna's card came today and now I am thirsty! It also had a cool stamp on it. The folks who received cards from me might notice something interesting about the stamp as well.

Thank you romansperson for the "Guglhunds welcome" card from Café Guglhupf.

I just had a look at their website: the menu looks great! And yes - bread and beer is both very important (and usually really good!) in Germany.

Glad you got my card today and enjoyed reading about our tiny little piece of Germany transplanted into the American South! I was intrigued that you got silenus' card before mine. I believe they were mailed around the same time, but I am 2,400 miles closer to you than he is; the mails are mysterious things …

Also, the card that needscoffee got from me is from a site you recommended during a previous iteration of our postcard exchange threads. I love that site!

I mailed all of my postcards on Wednesday! And I've received two postcards - one from dbygawdcapn - I love the card - and who knew scratch 'n sniff stamps existed?! - and one from Allecher, with a cool history of the Toad Suck Daze Festival!

Thanks for the fun, all!

I received two on Saturday, one from Allecher and one from Nayna. I only pick my mail up once a week since I retired from work and it’s so nice to get something besides bills and ads.
It looks like all three of mine have been received.

Glad you enjoyed it - Ansel Adams is considered to be one of the great American nature photographers and did some stunning work in the 1930s-1950s in the western national parks. Lesser known is the work he did at the Manzanar War Relocation Center, a Japanese internment camp that the government built during WWII. It's a significant departure from the rest of his work, and a very important record of that time in our history that we need never to forget.

I got two cards today. A surprising bonus card from Karen Lingel with a lighthouse in Santa Cruz that's now a surfing museum, and a "regular" card from Allecher with an old steamboat on the Arkansas River, telling the "legend of toad suck", a place where an (in)famous tavern used to be where the patrons "sucked on the bottle til they swelled up like toads", hence the name. Thank you both!

Got some cards today!
One surprise extra from Karen Lingel, showing the lighthouse in Santa Cruz that EinsteinsHund mentioned above.
Also, two excellent cards fromBiotop, one showing CementLand, USA and another from the Roy Rogers and Dale Evans museum, which actually has a vinyl record stuck to it - I shall have to get my record player out!

((I haven't sent my cards yet, because I am a terrible person))

More postcards!

A postcard from Bear Nenno, showing various grand and quaint buildings in Zagreb, Croatia, a place apparently so primitive they haven't quite perfected "paper". Although I can't quite determine what material the postcard is -- perhaps instead Zagreb's postcard technology is years ahead of its time. Bear's message also includes a lovely Feynman diagram! Thanks, Bear Nenno!

And a bonus postcard from Elendil's Heir showing a Kusama installation called "All the Eternal Love I Have for the Pumpkins" (great name) and is apparently a mirrored room filled with abstract, possibly lighted, pumpkin sculptures. I have a feeling it is much cooler than can be depicted on a 2D postcard. Thanks, Elendil's Heir, and thanks for organizing the exchange!

First of all, I got my cards away on Thursday, and they are now crossing the pond so will probably arrive next week.

But I also got a set of great postcards from Maus Magill, from Tennessee and North Carolina, including a very cute bat from Linville Caverns.

Um, romansperson? Just checking if you got the rules right. It's "three people, one card each" not "one person, three cards".

In addition to the cute Guglhupf card and the stunning b/w national park card.... I now got a beautiful elephant from the North Carolina National Zoo.

Thank you very much! All of your cards have been thoughtful and funny and I so loved the suprise of getting bonus cards!
