Yup, the very next grifter package.

Buy a 'Peace Peach Tree®' from Trump Peace Trees for only $99.99 plus $49.95 overseas shipping and handling, and it will be 'donated' to the Palestinians or Israelis to show your commitment to peace in the region.

Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross thinks it's a great sign that there were no anti-Trump protesters in Saudi Arabia. The dumbassery runs deep in this administration.

From the linked article:
Quote:
CNBC anchor Becky Quick attempted to point out that Saudi Arabia bans all political protests, but Ross did not let that spoil his good mood.

“In theory that could be true. But, boy, there was certainly no sign of it, there was not a single effort at any incursion."
"In theory that could be true." Jesus wept. Probably Muhammad too. And, really, anyone with a little damned sense.

I've never heard of the Fifth being invoked in response to a subpoena...I thought it only involved self-incriminating testimony. But NPR didn't mention that in the linked story, so I'll assume that I'm wrong.

So I've had MST3K on the mind lately, because of the new series, and I think this would be a good song for the current administration.

(Come to think of it, that was from the same episode with the line, "Trumpy can do stupid things!")

I am hopeful that Flynn will merely be the very first of the Trump-Russia gang to spend time in jail. He should be sent there forthwith for contempt of congress.

Wait, what ? I know the 5th can be invoked to keep mum about things that could be incriminating* but turning over supboena'd shit ? That's a new one on me. Bricker or another of you hellbound scum lawyerly types, straight dope on this please ?

Would they have to issue a warrant for those documents if they really want them?

I imagine there's still some sort of penalty he'll have to suffer for not handing them over? I mean, that's what "subpoena" means.

IANAL, but I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night and I saw a lawyer talking on MSNBC while I was there.

I don't fully understand it but this seems to be the relevant case:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unit...tes_v._Hubbell

Apparently you can invoke the 5th if the very act of producing the documents (not the contents of the documents themselves) - is incriminating. So if the document is something that it is not legal for you to possess, you can plead the 5th since producing the document is the same as confessing that you have it.

But he can't plead the 5th on the contents of the documents, that material ceased to be protected when it was documented.

"They really know how to do business here!" Between this nonsense, Erdogan's bodyguards kicking the shit out of protesters in D.C., and Trump's slobbery love for everything Putin, expect more complaints from Trump about how unfair it is that the Constitution provides protections for political speech and assembly.

This is the most cringing, embarrassing, stupendously bizarre person I've even known in politics - this stuff in Isreal about brokering peace when he has no ideas, no strategy, no experience, no clue whatsoever .. it's just a guy standing in front of a microphone talking utter shit and totally convinced the world believes in his abilities.

Trump is delusioned in the same way Idi Amin was, or Robert Mugabe is now. He thinks people clap because he's the deal maker, the guy who gets things done.

It's utterly mad.

This is potentially huge because if there's one contemporaneous memo from these two sources, as the WaPo source claims, then this would be contemporaneous memos from two different sources in two different agencies saying almost essentially the same thing. And if two of these agencies produced contemporaneous memos, then that's even more damning.

Assuming congressional and independent investigators are doing their due diligence, then if these memos do end up all seeing the light of day, we're almost incontrovertibly getting into obstruction of justice territory here, and it would lead directly to the President himself.

Trump already bragged on national TV that he was committing obstruction of justice! During the campaign he also requested a a nation commit espionage against the US, so what do I know about what's appropriate.

The crazy thing about this whole Russia shit is that I'm not entirely convinced that Trump himself is directly connected to it. It's obvious that others around him absolutely are and I'm sure he found out about it after the fact, but his campaign aides probably saw it as their patriotic duty to keep him in the dark while doing his dirty work, a la CREEP, a la Ollie North.

Could just be the time zones messing with his circadian rhythms. The man is 70 after all and pretty out of shape, golfing notwithstanding. Come to think of it, Trump may not need to be impeached after all. Me might just die of a heart attack after all that KFC and pizza.
