Tomorrow I shall be homeless.
Well, technically anyway. I'll still have a roof of sorts over my head if that counts.
Long story, I live with my daughter and grandsons, we are originally from Vic Australia. Four-odd months ago she was offered a wunnerful job by her company, but 4,500 km away, in WA Australia. Great salary, conditions, yada yada. A week before the probation period was up, she was told her position was terminated. Well, fuck. So tonight is our last night in our apartment. The removalists come tomorrow to pack our stuff and move it back to the east coast, so we're going from the desert to the tropical rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef now. And while our stuff is going overland and will take at least 4 weeks to get there, we're going via Bali because it's cheaper and fuck, it's Bali innit? But we don't have a house to move into over there in FNQ as yet. Real estate agents over here in Aus don't like people doing online applications for properties they haven't looked at...so we get back to FNQ in early Dec, and THEN we look for a house to rent. So yeah, on one hand it's HOLIDAY TIME. On the other, it's WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING?? But no worries, she'll be right, mate. ![]() Last edited by kambuckta; 11-07-2019 at 01:46 AM. |

As an Army brat living near Washington, DC, my mother and I made many trips to various houses to "check them out" for old friends who were renting (or even buying!) them sight-unseen. We treated it like a sacred trust. I certainly understand the trepidation you must feel.
What is the market like in the new place? Are there a lot of turnkey houses on the market or will you be likely in transient housing for a while? Either way, good luck. Change is hard, even when it's good change and goes smoothly. Bali though. Worth it. |

I've done it and it turned out well. AND I didn't get to go to Bali. Enjoy your homelessness!!!

It will seriously be fine (hopefully). The cats got sent off today to arrive in Queensland tomorrow by air, and fuck me that our apartment in Bali is cheaper than their bloody
RSPCA lodgings per night!! Damn, oh to be a cat! ![]() We have an impeccable rental history, and with two kids I imagine that agents will be happy to find us a home. Otherwise, well, we might be screwed, but have enough $$ to hang out in temp accom until the situation changes. Gonna be interesting times though. ![]() |

Good luck finding an abode quickly.
Will she work for the same Company or will she be shopping for a job as well? |

It looks like you're going to Bali.
Enjoy! (It's on my bucket list.) Quote:
And sometimes people who switch their job to a new city make a short trip first, and fly there for a few days to arrange housing, before they actually pack up the house and move. But then, we don't have Bali nearby. ![]() Looks like you're doin' okay. |

Enjoy your holiday. I'm envious, you're going from one tropical location (Bali) to another one (FNQ). I've just got to bide my time. In 9 months I'll be free to do my work wherever I want, and part of that WILL be in Bali.
![]() Good luck! - you will find a good place - there are more rental properties than you can throw a boomerang at, I hear. |

Sorry to hear about it, I enjoyed the thread about your move to WA. Termination during probation not for cause but simply eliminating the position is a dick move. Is your family paying for moving expenses, or does the company have the decency to cover that?

And yes, the company is paying, thank goodness. |

The Removalists
Great band! Saw them open for Death Cab at the Wiltern Theater. |

Removalists sound like being from a Stephen King novel. When you upset the wrong powers that be, the Removalists un-exist you, and anyone and anything ever connected to you.

Do they do side gigs? I may have some work for them.

We survived the removalists, just. There will be severe emails sent to their head office on Monday. Took them 10hrs for what should have been a 4hr job MAX. And then they managed to leave heaps of stuff behind...so our fellow apartment folks got a shitload of freebies today. Grace Removals are DISgraceful.
But we're in Bali now, so I can't bitch too much. And bum-guns are the best thing ever for getting the Pilbara red dirt off've your feet. |

How well do they work for their intended purpose? Will you install one in your new abode?

So, within the last - what - ten years? you've done Vic, NSW, WA and now Queensland.
Tassie next year? And then you can start filling in the gaps...
