So the idea is that if Mueller has anything to announce, it's likely to be now.
So, release it on Wednesday. If it's important, you probably don't release it on a Friday before a 3-day weekend.

60 days before the election is next Friday... but the "60 day rule" is mostly an invention of Rudy.

Well, it's about 5:30PM in DC, and my news feed doesn't include any bombshells. Did I miss something?

Based on the movement of the polls during the 2016 election, it seems like the general public only has a 2 week memory, before everyone starts to forget everything and opinions return to nothing:

https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com...tion-forecast/

A single month seems sufficient to me.

After all, Trump isn't on any ballot this November.

Adolf Hitler's sister lived in the US for many years after the war, under the name Wolfe, if I recall correctly.

One thing that might be kept in mind is that, whatever Federal guidelines and norms might be, the State of New York can and probably will do whatever the fuck it wants for the next two months.

News of genuine criminal activity can and does move the polls - and thereby the vote - as the FiveThirtyEight prediction demonstrates (it had gone from 3 in 5 to 7 in 9 as the polls from Trump's hell week have come in). The Democratic party will notice that and, by virtue of controlling New York State and New York City, they have basically unfettered ability to dump all sorts of stuff into the public sphere at basically any moment.

"Metaphorically" doesn't count when it comes to Department of Justice time-limit guidelines.

The Agalarovs paid one of the (Russian) attendees to the Veselnitskaya meeting $1.2m a few days after the meeting:

That said, I feel like if this was actually important, it wouldn't have been leaked.

Manafort takes a plea deal to avoid a 2nd trial. Two of the big networks cutaway from the hurricane for that story, one does not. I think you can figure out which one did not cut away.

Uh-oh. How does one say "Holy shit!!" in Russian. (I would ask my fellow posters not to collude with any actual Russians to find out.)

I think "Chyort!" means "Dammit!" or something very similar. Best I can do on short notice, tovarisch.

Includes cooperation, and the investigation paid for itself and then some in civil forfeitures. Good morning.

This journalist seems to believe that the plea agreement is effectively "pardon proof"
Quote:
And at this point, the deal is pardon proof. That was part of keeping the detail secret: to prevent a last minute pardon from Trump undercutting it.

Here’s why this deal is pardon proof:

(1) Mueller spent the hour and a half delay in arraignment doing … something. It’s possible Manafort even presented the key parts of testimony Mueller needs from him to the grand jury this morning.
(2) The forfeiture in this plea is both criminal and civil, meaning DOJ will be able to get Manafort’s $46 million even with a pardon.
(3) Some of the dismissed charges are financial ones that can be charged in various states.

Apparently the President's legal team put out an initial statement that read:

Quote:
The President did nothing wrong and Paul Manafort will tell the truth.
Then, minutes later, updated it to:

Quote:
The President did nothing wrong.
Oops. May have jumped the gun on that one.

I'm very surprised that he's cooperating. Not because I think he's in this for anybody but himself, but because I thought he had probably received death threats from some of the people he might implicate. I mean Russians and Ukrainians, not Trump, although I'm sure he'd do it too if he thought he could get away with it.

Now that that's evidently wrong, I really wonder why he took so long.

If a bunch of people want you dead, jail is a pretty good place to be. Unless of course they pay off another inmate to whack you.

The question of the safety of Manafort's family may have been paramount in his decision to cooperate. If the Feds can reasonably guarantee an ultra-secure witness protection package, then Manafort may have calculated that it was the best he could do to keep his self-respect (i.e. 'I'm a guy who protects my family instead of getting them killed over my uncontrollable desire for ostrich jackets.')
