Trump wanted USS John McCain hidden in Japan

Every time you think he can't go any lower, he does.

https://slate.com/news-and-politics/...mps-visit.html

BTW, the ship is named for the senator and his father and grandfather but I'm sure Trump had no idea about that.

The article states that "the White House" ordered the vessel hidden. Just checking here, do we have any confirmation that Trump himself ordered this, or could it have been an overzealous official currying favor?

Idiotic and rather insane regardless of who's responsible, understand.

I'm sure he doesn't have any idea about that. But DDG-56 was rededicated to include John S. McCain III on 11 July 2018.

Based on no evidence, my WAG is that this is close to the truth. Some lower level officials, either to earn brownie points or to avoid a tantrum, made this happen without Trump's direction. Trump is still infantile, of course, but he may not have explicitly ordered it.

The fact that someone in the WH thought this was the right thing to do tells you all you need to know about The Very Stable Genius. You think things are fucked up in public? Imagine the level of covfefe going on behind closed doors that gets us to the point where they're now hiding a name from this asshole.

On Twitter, Trump is denying knowing "...anything having to do with the Navy Ship USS John S. McCain". Well, maybe not, but you aren't saying it was a wrong thing to do, are ya, Donald J?

Garbage scows serve a purpose and are useful.

Trump should have the next oil spill named after him.

I asked my friend to explain what was 'fake' about the report. She replied:

Quote:
The photo depicts the ship covered in a tarp, that didnít happen! Thatís how your fake, mind-controlling media works! Besides, Trump has no issues with the real McCain heroes, just the younger traitor!
Um... 'There was no tarp on the ship, and here's a photo of a tarp on the ship to prove it!'?

The younger traitor? Who is that? The senator? If Trump supporters view Sen. McCain as a traitor, and the bone spurs motherfucker as NOT a traitor... well, I guess that's par for the course in Trumpland.

Yes, 'Baby McCain' is a traitor:

John McCain Sr. and Jr. were both Admirals. Senator McCain was a captain which is right below admiral. He probably would have made admiral if he did not retire due to his injuries from being tortured in Vietnam.

I have very little use for McCain as a politician. His choice of Sarah Palin helped get us to Trump. However, and in spite of the fact the he might have been a careless pilot, the man is a bona fide war hero who endured an ordeal the great majority of us can't imagine. Anyone who calls him a traitor needs to be dick-punched without delay.

Which of course raises the question of which is worse. The president ordering an infantile action, or a president whose deportment is such that his staff can anticipate that he would desire an infantile action.

Trump bashed McCain before the election, but what really ticked Trump off was McCain not voting to get rid of Obamacare. If McCain had voted to cancel Obamacare possibly Trump would have backed off at least somewhat.

Anyone who thinks this is a big deal knows NOTHING about how political staff operates. They go out of their way to protect their bosses from anything that looks bad in the media. Obviously, any picture of Trump with a ship named "McCain" behind him would cause the media to rehash the whole story. Why even go through that? It's just like the staff will not allow a fat candidate to be photographed with a pig or other large animal in the background. But since you all hate Trump so much it must be something insidious. Grow up a little.

In this case the candidate is the pig, and they wanted to avoid the "whole story" of the pig acting pig-like. If Trump wasn't such a complete ass, there would be no issue with the USS McCain being in the photo.

So they cover it up which creates a bigger news story? That's how political staff should operate?

Avoiding the pig exhibit at the Iowa state fair is a bit different than covering up the name of a warship. Youíre right, perhaps the media would have made a story of it if Trump wasnít busy praising murderous dictators and condemning a Vice President of the USA on foreign soil

Again projection. "[S]poiled brat antics"? The irony of Trump saying McCain benefited from his father and grandfather is deep. Maybe he did somewhat, but I'd say McCain was his own man. Trump, on the other hand, was initially staked and then repeatedly bailed out financially by his father because he's an incompetent businessman. Can you imagine what a failure in life Trump would be if he had been born into a middle-class family? He'd be Biff Tannen from Back to the Future:

Quote:
The character is portrayed as a towering, violent and aggressive bully who obtains what he wants by intimidating others into doing his work for him, or by cheating. He and his family members are shown to misuse idioms in a way that makes them appear stupid and pathetic despite their intention to insult or scare. His favorite insult is "butthead".

I did not know that, but it turns out this is true:

‘Back to the Future’ Writer: Biff Is Donald Trump

“That’s what we were thinking about,” says screenwriter Bob Gale

Quote:
The similarities between the megalomaniacal billionaire hotel-casino owner with hair the texture of cotton candy, a penchant for surgically enhanced arm candy and outsize ambitions that appears in Back to the Future Part II and the one presently appearing on the presidential campaign trail?

Not so coincidental after all!

Back to the Future Part II screenwriter Bob Gale confirmed in an interview with the Daily Beast that Donald Trump was the inspiration for the character he and director Robert Zemeckis created back in 1989.
I guess I have to say "Good job, screenwriters!" Although, the first movie came out in 1985. I've seen that one several times; the sequels maybe only once or twice and don't really remember them except the Clint Eastwood quote in the Western one.

Whether the Dotard-in-Chief ordered that that be done or his staff did so without his knowledge, to me, is irrelevant. What IS relevant is that we apparently have someone living in the W.H. who is SO sensitive that he can't even bear to see the name of someone whom he thought was a "total loser" on the side of a U.S. ship. What's this about us non-Trumptards being "snowflakes" simply because we can't cope with a person of such low character and intelligence being in the W.H., hm?

Others have pointed it out already, but I’ll reiterate that that the evidence so far is that this was ordered/requested by White House Military Office staff, not Trump himself. Yes, we’re dealing with bunch of big fat liars, so who knows for sure. https://www.wsj.com/articles/white-h...t-11559173470?
(That WSJ article cites conflicting reports about acting DS Shanahan’s involvement.)

The reasonable inference is that they thought he’d do/say something stupid if he were surprised by seeing the ship’s name.. Kevin Drum: https://www.motherjones.com/kevin-dr...s-john-mccain/
