Just to check I just installed Firefox, which has never been installed on this pc before and I still see ads.
Only on the SDMB - no where else 11

If you aren't served ads, then your bookmark (or whatever gets you here) is probably missing the https at the beginning of it, or has http instead of https.

This can cause all sorts of problems, one of which is that the system will often treat you as if you are not logged in and therefore could display ads. 12

You have not been a Charter Member since 2011. Sometimes the flag that indicates user title "sticks" and doesn't flip when the usergroup changes. This actually happened twice.
